Tallinn Airport shelves plan to build a new terminal

Rein Loik, CEO and chairman of Tallinn Airport that hopes to break the two-million passenger mark this year, announced yesterday that the airport will not be building a new terminal for low-cost carriers because of Estonian Air’s recent decision to change its route network and cancel some routes, reports ERR.

„We don’t know at this point how many flights Estonian Air will have next year, but we expect it to be significantly less than today. Next year’s passenger figure will be clearly below two million, probably at around 1.8 million,” said Loik.

Last year, the number of passengers in the Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport increased by 38 percent - to 1.9 million. The airport expected the number to grow by another 20 percent this year, to 2.3 million. The airport's current facilities are designed to serve up to 2.5 million passengers per year.
