Se tuli englanninkielisestä sanasta "luddite" jota käytettiin Englannin tekstiilitehtaan työntekijöistä jotka tuhosivat kutomakoneita koska ne veivät heidän vanhat työpaikkansa.
Samalla tavalla Windows-fanit, nämä aikamme luddiitit, vastustavat Linuxia ja avoimia standard-ajattelua koska se vie menneisyydessä elävien tietoturvaihmisen, Windows-tukihenkilöiden, advokaattien ja moiden loisien työt. Windows has no place in the post-PC era, and Android desktops are accelerating the pace of adoption. "

Luddiitit vastustivat kapitalismia. Puheiden perusteella nämä pentit kuitenkin ylistävät sitä.

Se on varmaa että kaikki digitaalinen tulee ennenpitkää ilmaiseksi. Siksi lähestymme aikaa jolloin sekä Apple että Microsoft ovat pakotettuja jakamaan yhä enemmän ja enemmän softaansa ilmaiseksi. Tulevaisuudessa myös käyttöjärjestelmä. Tai niin kuin Guillette partakoneen valmistaja aikoinaan oivalsi. Anna koneet lähes ilmaiseksi, laskuta teristä. Ohjelmistopuolella: anna softa ilmaiseksi, laskuta palveluista.
Peliteollisuudessahan on jo nyt vallalla tämä ansaintalogiikka: pelit ilmaisia, mutta jos haluat lisää ominaisuuksia ja haluat päästä pelaamaan välittömästi maksat lisäeduista.
Tähän suuntaan mennään: perusclientin käyttäjälle perussofta tulee olemaan jatkossa ilmaista.
