French police move from Windows to Ubuntu Linux
Summary: The big reason the French Gendarmerie made the Linux move? It saved them 40 percent in total cost of ownership over Windows.
There are many reasons to switch to a Linux desktop from Windows. Better security; not having to worry over possible built-in privacy leaks; and, last but never least, Linux is cheaper... a lot cheaper.
That's the big reason why the Gendarmerie, which with the Police Nationale, serves France as a national police force, has been slowly, but surely moving to a customized version of Ubuntu Linux, from Windows XP.
In an European Union report for government administrators, Major Stéphane Dumond of the French Home Office is reported to have said at the Evento Linux conference that, "Using an open-source desktop lowers the total cost of ownership (TCO) by 40 percent in savings on proprietary software licenses and by reducing costs on IT management. Using Ubuntu Linux massively reduces the number of local technical interventions."

Linux cuts Kent Police system costs by 90%
Kent Police has cut the cost of running its major criminal investigations system by 90% using Novell Open Enterprise Server, the company's version of SuSE Linux.
The migration to Novell enabled Kent to scale up the Holmes II system to investigate this February's raid on the Securitas depot in Tonbridge - one of the biggest criminal investigations in the force's history.
Kent Police migrated Holmes II to the Novell operating system after systems integrator Unisys adapted it to run on the open source operating system. The force's IT department then searched for the cheapest hardware to support the system.

"Eventually all of the [US] Army's networks will be Linux-based"
Red Hat seems to be doing OK on interop. Funny what happens when customers vote.
The goal of the US Army is to move from Windows to Linux. In the meantime, the Army has to find ways to make the two work together. It's turning to Red Hat to do so and to a group of internal IT professionals to create a "Battle Command" that will explore how to move the Army from 20th-century Windows to 21st-century Linux.

Linux on ainoa turvallinen vaihtoehto.
Vähemmän tietoa USA:lle, joten USA itse on avoimempi hyökkäyksille, mikä on hyvä asia.
