Saudi Arabia will provide $10 million in emergency humanitarian aid to the victims of the tsunami in the Indian Ocean region

   

[Washington, DC] -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will provide U.S. $10 million in emergency humanitarian aid to the victims of the tsunami in the Indian Ocean region. Five million dollars in food and medical assistance will be distributed through the Saudi Red Crescent Society, and $5 million in cash will be channeled through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.


Ambassador to the United States Prince Bandar bin Sultan stated: "The Kingdom has historically been on the forefront of nations providing assistance to others in need, and it will do so now to help those who have suffered from the recent tragedy. Saudi Arabia will continue to follow the situation closely to determine what other assistance it can provide. May God Almighty have mercy on the souls of those who died, and may He grant strength and patience to their families as they go through this difficult time."
