If you are training with us at our Siam Square branch in Bangkok, there are many cheap good quality guest houses, hotels and hostels near the training centre. It is also usually possible to rent a simple one-room apartment for the month if you allow yourself time to organize this. Once you have found work in Thailand, finding cheap accommodation is not difficult. In Bangkok there is, if anything, an oversupply of rented accommodation. Here the sky train and the underground have made a big difference to transport in the areas they cover but it is still more convenient to live near to where you will work.

To help you get started, we've compiled a list of some of the accommodation available near our Siam Square training centre. The closest cheap accommodation to Siam Square is in the following street. We've given you the street name in Thai to show to your taxi driver.

There are several ways to get here from the airport. If money is no object, clearly signed limousine service counters are located in the arrival hall on the ground floor. The approximate price from the airport to downtown is 650 baht.

Only use authorized taxis. These can be found at the clearly signed public taxi stands immediately outside the arrival hall. Join the queue, tell the receptionist in the booth where you want to go and she will give you an invoice for the 50 baht airport surcharge which you should hand in to your driver at the end of the trip. The 'taxi meter' sign is clearly displayed on the top of the taxi (don't get into one which doesn't have this). When your journey begins, ensure that the driver has the meter turned on. If you use the expressway, the driver may ask you to give him the 30 - 70 baht for the toll. More probably, he will pay himself and add the cost to the sum on the meter, together with the 50 baht airport surcharge, at the end of your trip. The total cost to downtown should be less than 300 baht. For your own safety, check to ensure your taxi has seat belts installed when you get in and then wear them.

Soi Kasem 1 is adjacent to the National Stadium sky train station. Leaving the station by Exit 3 brings you out at the end of the soi. A taxi from the airport will take you to the northernmost sky train station at Mo Chit but though you may save a little time taking the train from here, you won't save a lot of money.

None of the airport buses go to Siam Square, but if you get off Airport Bus No.1 at the Rajthewi intersection, you are about a 20 minute walk from the top end of Soi Kasem 1.

Walking to ECC from Soi Kasem 1
Soi Kasem 1 is 12 minutes walk or less from ECC. To get to ECC, you can either walk straight across the footbridge near the end of the soi into Tokyu Department Store in MBK, walk on through the MBK shopping centre and leave it by the exit into Siam Square on the second floor, which brings you out at the end of Chula Soi 64 where ECC is situated, or you can walk diagonally across the footbridge over the intersection, then walk along Rama 1 Road opposite the Siam Centre shopping centre, turn down Siam Square Soi 4 at the Dunkin Donuts shop and keep walking (crossing Soi 7 on the way) till you reach a T-junction at Chula Soi 64, then turn right . ECC is opposite the British Council building.

Description: As you enter the soi Muangphol Mansion is the first Hotel on the left hand side. There are 78 rooms. Tell them you are from ECC and want a quiet room at the back on the side.

The restaurant is comfortable. Rooms have Air-conditioning and hot water. Prices range from 450-600 Baht per night or from 10,000-15,000 Baht per month. You can book by fax or phone and pay upon arrival.

Accommodation - Phuket
If you are training with us at our Phuket branch, there are many cheap good quality guest houses, hotels and hostels near the training centre. It is also possible to rent a simple one-room apartment for the month if you allow yourself time to organize this.
Speak to the teachers at the branch, they'll certainly know some cheap places to stay.



As you leave the airport, you will very probably be besieged by people offering you unauthorized taxis. No matter how pleasant or persistent they are, don't be tempted to use these! At the very least you will end up paying a great deal more than you should and much worse things have been known to happen.

One of the first guest houses in Phuket, established in 1929, and based in an old style Chinese shop house. This guest house boasts a laundry service, a coffee shop and restaurant, an internet caf? (20 baht per hour) and is very near to a large second-hand bookshop.

Prices vary depending on the type of room you choose. A standard twin or double costs from 650-750 Baht, a deluxe twin or double costs from 850-950 Baht and a suite costs 1,500 Baht per night. For guests staying longer than 10 nights deduct 50 Baht per night from the above prices.

This hotel is located directly opposite the training centre and is also the oldest hotel in Phuket town. You can visit the Phuket museum, which is located within the hotel, for 30 Baht.

The price for a standard room is 550 Baht per night. They offer a monthly deal of 12,000 Baht per month. They have an annex called 'Budget Hotel' where you can get a fan room for 4,500 Baht per month.
