In France, a court in Strasbourg sentenced a 62-year-old woman who killed a young lynx in Alsace to a three-month suspended prison sentence and ordered her to pay over €30,000 in compensation to animal welfare organizations. She, too, claimed it was a case of mistaken identity, saying she mistook the lynx for a cat. The court only partially believed her explanation. In Austria, an amateur hunter paid a fine of over €11,000 and more than €12,000 in damages for illegally killing a lynx.
And in Switzerland? 300 francs."
