BRENTWOOD, 24 June 2002 – TDCi – Ford’s exciting new second-generation, common-rail diesel engine range – has scored two firsts this month: registering unprecedented success in the sales charts and making a groundbreaking racetrack debut at the Goodwood Motor Circuit.
The increasing appeal of TDCi amongst UK customers has led to Ford diesel sales surging, up 37 per cent year-to-date over the same period 2001. Within this growth, Focus diesel sales are up 33 per cent and Mondeo diesel sales are enjoying an unprecedented rise of 69 per cent year-to-date.
At the same time, in one of the first uses of diesel cars for on-track driving, Goodwood-based Mithrill Racing will use both the acclaimed Ford Mondeo TDCi and award-winning Ford Focus TDCi as track driving tuition cars at Goodwood.
Although refined and economical, boasting up to 51.4mpg, both Ford Focus and Ford Mondeo TDCi were selected for their impressive power and torque figures: 115PS and 250Nm for Focus; 130PS and 330Nm for Mondeo.
“TDCi is doing exactly what it set out to do – positively changing customers expectations of, and demand for, Ford diesel engines”, said Andy Barratt, medium car brand manager, Ford Motor Company Limited. “At the same time, that track experts think TDCi ideal for circuit driving is a tremendous endorsement of the refined performance qualities of the brand.”
The British-built Ford Duratorq TDCi engine family is developed and built at Ford’s UK Centre for Diesel Excellence in Dagenham, Essex.
