Personality, character and goals
For a technical and scientific person, I am exceptionally talented in
people and communication skills. While many outstanding technical
talents are limited by their capability to communicate with people
(especially non-technical people), I have excellent talent, experience and
track record as a lively colleague and friend, good listener and public
lecturer. My broad experience in teaching, camp instructing and
teamwork is amended by the native-speaker level written and spoken
English language skill.
“You are excellent instructor [Robert]. Relaxed and positive man who listens to
opinions of others. Thank you for a wonderful camp!”
“You have a very warm heart and make me feel safe. You have great goals in
your life and you were wonderful instructor!”
“You get very well along with people – you are truly a wonderful person.”
Comments by youngsters from camps where I was as instructor.
Gaining outstanding grades in all levels of education from comprehensive
school to university demonstrates both intrinsic talent in the
subject matter and exceptional ability to learn. This point is exemplified
by my completion of top-grade Masters Degree in only four years
(average being six years) while during the last two years simultaneously
holding a teaching and research assistant position.
Overall, I can quickly master new skills and knowledge needed to
perform well in some task, whether technical or human-related.
“Robert is a very lively member of the [Chemistry] class. […] I have rarely
taught someone so enthusiastic and inquiring in his pursuit for knowledge. I
am impressed by his grasp of scientific principles and by the skill he shows in
explaining them.”
John Devonshire, IB Advanced Chemistry teacher, Atlantic College, 1992
Good learning ability is mirrored by similarly exceptional teaching
ability, even in difficult technical matters. Confidence in teaching has
been developed in several related activities. My skills in understanding
of fellow learners on personal level allows for more effective and flexible
transfer of knowledge. My enthusiastic attitude spreads easily to
students and colleagues, creating an enhanced learning atmosphere.
“Warm thanks [to Robert] for leading us through the difficult problems of
computer science during the past 20 months. Thank you for your most
interesting, very refreshing and skillful teaching.”
Computer Science adult students at Turku Open University
at the end of course 1996
Moving alone to a foreign country for two years at age of 15 is probably a
big decision for anyone and so it was for me. Yet, as an example of
courage and determination in pursuing my ambitions, I did not dismiss
that possibility. I believe that courage does not mean never being afraid
but rather the ability to do what one wants and feels right despite of
occasionally being afraid in the process. Hence I continue to set my
standards high and do what is necessary to fulfill them.
8 / 9
Social and warm
hearted, good in
communication
Excellent learner
and teacher
Courageous and
determined
Further experience in my work and hobbies has demonstrated
significant courage and initiative to solve difficult problems – whether
technical or human related – with openness, honesty and efficiency. I
am indeed a solution oriented person: instead of surrendering to or
trying to ignore problems, I constantly purse to invent and implement
longer term, higher quality and otherwise better solutions to them.
In any task that I decide to take, I am able to work individually or in a
group, flexibly obtaining needed information from available sources
during the process. Always willing to see the results of my work, I do not
like the idea of quitting or leaving a project halfway. Good communication
skills enable exact and easy-to-understand reporting of progress,
possible problems encountered and suggested solutions and new ideas
to explore.
When set to understand a new technology, application or method, my
determination means that I will not be satisfied with vague or incorrect
understanding. Instead, I use my skill in asking good questions that
probe the core of the subject until I am content with my new knowledge.
This ability has been demonstrated to generate valuable insights not
only for myself but for my colleagues as well.
“Robert has a very quick mind and can always understand concepts with little
explanation. Instead of relaxing once he has grasped a law he juggles with it,
mentally applying it to novel situations trying to find its limits.”
Chris Hamper, IB advanced Physics teacher, Atlantic College, 1993
In my working career I am looking for positions where I can use my
creativity and intelligence to produce valuable and high-quality
products or services. While I make a great software developer in any
field, I primarily seek jobs where I can in some way take advantage of
my education and talent in mathematic and/or natural sciences.
Furthermore, possibility to learn and constantly develop my own skills
is very important to me as well as being able to advance my job position
based on such improvements. I consider working in a team – possibly in
a leading or mentoring role with high level of communication –
additional desirable aspect.
