Korutonta kertomaa on... Hupaisinta on mielestäni tuo huomio oven sulkemisen äänestä: kalleimmassakin Toyotassa kuuluu siis sama PLÄM kuin jossain Corollassa.

We have absolutely no hesitation in recommending the Toyota Camry to executive car buyers. But only once it's a year old. It's a best-seller in the US, but over here the car heads another chart, being one of the fastest depreciating motors in the UK. Purchase a £25,495 Camry V6 now, and in three years' time it will have shed £15,765 in value - enough to buy a mid-range Avensis outright.
Why? It's all down to image. For the same money as this Camry, you can get behind the wheel of the £24,700 Audi A6 2.4 quattro Sport or a £26,255 Volvo S80 2.9SE, to name but two. There are a few sweeteners to persuade you to give up the prestige badge, though. Leather upholstery, sophisticated DVD-based sat-nav, ESP, climate and cruise control, plus six airbags, are all standard in the V6.
However, in the luxury sector a vehicle needs more than equipment to guarantee sales. And if you look past the spec sheet, the case for the Camry starts to fall apart. The Toyota does little to inspire when on the road, and while it's certainly quiet, comfortable and undemanding, out on twisty country lanes it proves dynamically dull.
The car feels ponderous in corners and floaty while cruising at speed, with over-sensitive power-steering and a flawed ride. It holds the road fairly well, but there's plenty of tyre squeal, even at low speeds, to ward you off becoming too adventurous. The 3.0 V6 is available only as an auto, which is surprisingly only a four-speeder - odd given that most rivals offer five ratios.
Step inside, and there's none of the solidity of German competitors, either. The door shuts with a high-pitched clang rather than a thunk, while the bootlid is also on the tinny side. That said, the well equipped interior is trimmed in leather with a solidly made but uninspiring dashboard, and the CD multi- changer and sat-nav are both excellent and easy to use.
And with Toyota's build quality you know it will all be working perfectly in a year's time. So it's best to let someone else take that huge depreciation hit, and then pick yourself up a bargain priced executive cruiser. The money you save will be worth its 'wait' in gold...
In this competitive market, the Camry has little appeal. While it goes about its business efficiently, it lacks the image and finish of more prestigious rivals.

On sulla ihmeelliset ostokriteerit autoa
valittaessa. Käveletkö liikkeissä paukuttamassa
ovia? Juu en minäkään Camryä uutena ostaisi, en
ostaisi S-mersuakaan kun senkin hinta lähes
puolittuu uutena. Siis reaali maailmassa ei
Suomessa.

Briteillä on aina näitä hauskoja juttuja, kun
kirjoittajat on todella "asiantuntevia". WTF -
"recommending the Toyota Camry to executive car
buyers" kertoo kyllä paljon kirjoittajien
asiantuntemuksesta. Eihän camry ole mikään
johtajien auto vaan midsize perheauto, tosin
hieman ylihintainen. Voisihan vaikka ladasta
pyytää 500tmk, ja silti se olisi vain
ylihintainen lada eikä mikään executive car.
Camryssä on se vika, että se on liian kallis. Sen
vuoksi onkin ihmeellistä, että toyota tunkee
siihen kaikkia näitä luxusvarusteita jutussa
luetellaan, kuten automaatti-ilmastointi. Jos

Näistä luxusvarusteista jutussa puhuttiin. Jos
auto on liian kallis, kannattaisi varustusta
karsia. Varmaan joku jenkkien camry LE v6 olisi
järkevämmän hintainen tavallisine
ilmastointeineen ja kangaspenkkeineen. Hinta
olisi kilpailukykyisempi lähellä 250tmk.

Näistä luxusvarusteista jutussa puhuttiin. Jos
auto on liian kallis, kannattaisi varustusta
karsia. Varmaan joku jenkkien camry LE v6 olisi
järkevämmän hintainen tavallisine
ilmastointeineen ja kangaspenkkeineen. Hinta
olisi kilpailukykyisempi lähellä 250tmk.

Satelliittinavigointia ei Suomessa saa, sen sijaan mainitut nahkasisustus, ESP, ilmastointi, vakionopeussäädin ja kuusi turvatyynyä ovat ihan tavallisia varusteita 200 000 mk:n hintaluokassa. Camry kilpailisi tasaväkisesti jonkin Hyundai Sonatan kanssa, mutta kun hinta nousee Mersulukemiin. Hassu asetelma...
