Extracting the update
---------------------
Installing this update involves creating a BIOS flash diskette and
running the flash program from the diskette. Before you begin,
have a blank 1.44 MB diskette ready.
1. Click Start.
2. Click Find.
3. Click Files and Folders.
4. Insert a blank 1.44MB floppy diskette into the diskette drive.
5. Type aujt01a.exe in the search box, then click Find Now. This
will locate the aujt01a.exe file you just downloaded.
6. Double-click the icon for aujt01a.exe.
7. Follow the onscreen prompts. The necessary files will be
extracted to the diskette.
Installing the update

1. Close all open applications.
2. Leave the diskette in the A: drive, and shut down and restart
the computer to start the BIOS flash program.
3. Press the Spacebar when you see:

To verify that the BIOS update was successful, do the following:
1. From the Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 98 desktop, click Start.
2. Click Programs.
3. Click PC-Doctor for Windows
4. Click Aptiva System Information.
5. Depending on your orginal system motherboard BIOS designation,
verify that the BIOS version is either V75EN2E or V75EN4E.

Ei vaadi mitään käyttöjärjestelmää koneeseen, eikä sellainen saa edes olla käynnissä päivityksen aikana.
Käynnistä tuolla päivitysdisketillä ja seuraa annettuja ohjeita.
Varo häiriötä päivitysen aikana. Epäonnistunut päivitys voi tietää emon vaihtoa.
Jos et saa diskettiä luotua Ubuntulla niin voit tehdä sen vaikka jonkun tutun koneella.
Itse päivitys ja kone käynnistyy suoraan disketiltä.

Päivitys on nyt valmis.
Siinä koko homma disketintekoa lukuunottamatta, jonka voi joutua tekemään jollakin tutulla.
En osaa sanoa voiko tehdä muuten, kun en ole pakettia nähnyt. Jos se on .exe päätteinen ei se purkaudu kuin windowsilla.
Kun itse tein päivitysdiskettejä riitti kun raahasin kolme tiedostoa disketille ja se toimenpide toimii myös Ubuntulla.

Toisaalta, jos kone toimii hyvin ei biospäivitystä kannata tehdä.
Tuossa on kylläkin kyse exestä, joka kirjoittaa levykkeelle päivitykseen tarvittavat tiedostot. Eli homma ei onnistu kuin windowsissa ellei sitten ole kyse itsepurkautuvasta zippipaketista, jonka EHKÄ saa auki linuxissa.
Jos päivitykseen löytyy tiedostot ilman exeä, päivityslevykkeen teko onnistuu linuxissakin.
En siis vaivautunut lukemaan vastaustasi kunnolla.
Joo se tiedosto on .exe-päätteinen eli pitää olla windows jolla sen asennuskorpun saa tehtyä, yhdessä koneessa on windows muttei korppuasemaa pitää käydä tuttavien luona tekemässä.
Tiedän toki että tää on vähän sellaista kamikaze-hommaa mennä päivittämään bios.
Käännösksestä selviää kaikki oleellinen mitä tarvitsenkin, kiitos vielä kerran.

Bios-päivitykseen ei yhäkään liene suosituksena Windows, vaan nimenomaan puhdas dos.
Eli kuten lopulta ymmärsit, tehdään levyke, joka käynnistää järjestelmän ilman Windowssia (dos=Disk Operation System).
Tuskinpa nuo päivityskorpun tekoon tarkoitetut .exet toimivat dosissa. Eikä siellä taida toimia itsepurkautuvat paketitkaan.
