Degus are very social animals and need a lot of attention and someone(toisen degun) to ‘weep’(tarvitsevat ystävän olkapäätä,jota vasten kyynelehtiä/itkeä ilosta!) at, so it is recommended to keep at least two(ainakin kaksi degua) Degus, you can get two of the same sex or a breeding pair

If a breeding pair ensure that they have come from different parents, as in-breeding will lead to Degus that get ill very easily.

A single one is more likely to get depressed and will be more likely to get diseases, so if you do decide just to keep one, remember it will need lots of attention all day, so you will have to become its social contact and interact with it.

Degus will become hostile without suitable companionship.

If you have just one by itself, don’t despair, you can introduce a new Degu. Split the cage into two parts and place one Degu in each part, they should get use to each other in about a week, then you can put them together, don’t worry if they appear to fight at first, as one Degu has to be the boss and they will soon settle down.
