Lähde: rally-live.com "Richard Burns now has 32 points versus 30 points for Marcus Grönholm. A strange situation to see the championship leader as the one who has almost never been in contention for the win in a rally this year and that has not shown the same ability or speed behind the wheel of his Peugeot than his teammate Grönholm.
With last year's points system, Marcus Grönholm would have the same number of points as now but Richard Burns' total would shrink to a mere 22 points!
The most surprising is that the FIA already tried unsuccessfully similar systems. In Formula One during the 1982 season, Keke Rosberg became World Champion while the Finn and his Williams did not convince, winning only one victory during the whole season. That same year, Gilles Villeneuve's tragic death at Zolder followed by his teammate Didier Pironi's terrible accident at Hockenheim eliminated the two Ferrari drivers, helping Rosberg to get the title that almost everyone thought would have been awarded to one of the two Ferrari drivers. Learning from this lesson, the FIA decided to reduce to 11 out of 16 the number of Grands Prix where a driver could score points, to help the drivers with more wins rather than consistency. This same rule made Alain Prost lose the 1988 title even if he had 7 wins during the season. The French driver had to take off more than 10 points out his total score, which was enough to give his rival Ayrton Senna the crown.
The FIA decided to go back to a more conventional points system after Ayrton Senna's title and to let the drivers score points on every race throughout the season. If history is supposed to help prepare the future, the FIA should take notice..."

Kul vad?
