Volkswagen’s latest Polo hatchback is said to arrive on 2009, so we do not have many informations about it yet. Nevertheless this rendering from Motor Authority can give us a good idea what the final car may look: at a first glance, what is certain is that the new model will carry over the same basic shape of the current car.
The main new element of the model family will be hybrid drivetrains, as revealed previously by CEO Martin Winterkorn, but prior to the release of the hybrid car will be new BlueMotion diesel versions, and a possible performance version with Volkswagen’s outstanding super-turbocharged 1.4L TSI engine.
As the Polo has a low cost, the hybrid system is likely to a mild version that utilizes regenerative braking and electronically controlled components in similar fashion to BMW’s EfficientDynamics technology.
The next-generation of Polo is also expected to benefit from Volkswagen’s recently announced cheaper version of DSG and, when combined with the efficient BlueMotion diesel, could deliver a mileage figure in excess of 60mpg.
