PRESS RELEASE: Finnair Clinches UK Public Sector Traffic Deal
Finnair has won a landmark deal with the UK public sector to be the official airline for flights from London Heathrow to Osaka Japan and flights between Manchester and Helsinki. The agreement, secured in the face of tough competition from other airlines, represents another triumph for Finnair's Europe-Asia strategy, at the centre of which are the fastest flights between the two continents. It's another triumph also for the Via Helsinki concept based on Helsinki airport's modern facilities and fast connections.
Finnair will fly public sector staff and officials from London Heathrow to Osaka Japan and flights between Manchester and Helsinki until 2011 with an option of adding an additional year to the agreement. This is the first time Finnair has been awarded a deal with the UK government.
"This is a significant win for Finnair's Asian strategy," says Tomi Hänninen, who heads Finnair's sales in the UK.
"The deciding factors were significant incremental savings of 24% on air travel for government departments and the wider UK public sector. Finnair also flies a modern, environmentally friendly aircraft fleet and changes of flights take place at the efficient Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. Finnair offers one of the fastest routes from the UK to Asia. For example, our Osaka connection is the quickest when compared with competitor airlines," says Hänninen.
Finnair flies to Tokyo and Nagoya in Japan as well as Osaka, with Asian flights also to Bangkok, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Delhi and Mumbai.
