Robert Pogson kirjoitti äskettäin blogissaan, viitaten Gardnerin tutkimukseen jonka mukaan v.2013 mobiililaitteet ohittavat määrällä mitattuna PC:t, että kyseisenä vuonna (2013) Microsoftin käyttöjärjestelmän osuus verkkoon kytketyissä laitteissa putoaa ensimmäisen kerran alle 50%:n.
"Gartner predicts that by 2013 smartphones will overtake PCs in number. Each will have 1.8 billion units. At that point, M$ may well have less than 50% of web-connected OS and the barriers to adoption of GNU/LInux will largely be gone. Apps that folks consider “essential” on smartphones will largely be available on GNU/Linux. That is pretty well true today but most people have yet to discover that. Business is becoming more mobile so business will find GNU/Linux meets their needs adequately."

"A couple of years ago unit sales of PCs in Brazil were 20% which is a good indicator. There the government is using FLOSS widely and encourages businesses to supply GNU/Linux and FLOSS. Web stats are scarce for Brazil because the main language is Portugese and they do less business with other parts of the world in English, the language in which the popular sources keep stats. Brazil uses GNU/Linux in all schools. There is a good discussion of the reasons GNU/Linux does well in Brazil here. Internal documents revealed in court show their stats suggest 20% of organizations in Brazil were planning to move to GNU/Linux in 2003. Mandriva claimed 40000 PCs a month from the Positivo project. Positivo produced locally and sell 225000 PCs a month. 40K is a bit less than 20%. Here is a link to a commercial site in Brazil. Note the lack of recommendation of that other OS and the presence of GNU/Linux up front."
No, ainakin hän antoi mielenkiintoista lisävalaistusta asiaan.

Tuossa MS:n "Heat Map" jossa yhtiö arvioi jo vuonna 2003 että 20% brasseista on jo menetetty Linuxille. Intian osalta arvio liikkui n. 12%:ssa.

"4.5% is much more believable but even that site has a bias to that other OS because it has sections for .asp, etc.."
