Hello!

My name is Carla Susanna McReynolds and I am American, so excuse my English, but I cannot speak Finnish.
My grandmother was Finnish and her name was Helmi Marja, I am now pregnant with my second child, a girl and I would like to name her with an American first name Kelsey or Kayley and Finnish middle name. Which one of these names would work out with either Kelsey or Kayley:

Marja
Helmi
Anni
Eerika
Elisa or
Leena

I'd really appreciate for the help and in English is possible. Thank you!

P.S. My older son is called Kenneth Miko Christian.

I suggest Erika (with one E) or Elisa. If you don't want Erika, then I think Elisa is the most beautiful.

If you want to know which ones of the names you suggested are ugliest, I'd say Marja and Leena!!

Your son's name is ok, Kenneth and Miko I don't like so much, but Christian is a GORGEOUS name.

Btw, I like your name too! My dog is called Susanna (please don't be offended, she's adorable)and I'll name my daughter Carla (if I ever have one). I decided on the name Carla when I was a little girl :)

Hi Carla

I think all of the names you've mentioned are nice ones.

IMHO if you're thinking of having a Finnish middle name followed by an English one (like withnyour son) then it would sound good if the middle one was only two syllables.

In that case pehaps it would be nice to go for Helmi, your grandmothers first name = the pearl.

  • Hi!
    All your names are ok.
But maybe you or later your daughter may many times explain the origin of her unusual name, it might be nice to have some real meaning.
That´s why I think Helmi (=a pearl) is the best. And coming from grandmother.. Marja (a berry) has a meaning too.

Thank you so much for your answers! They were very helpful.
Which one of these is the best:

Kelsey Marja Susanna McReynolds
Kayley Marja Susanna McReynolds

Kelsey Helmi Susanna McReynolds
Kayley Helmi Susanna McReynolds

or

Kelsey Erika McReynolds
Kayley Erila McReynolds

Thank you!

  • I like the Helmi Susanna- combination.
To me Kelsey and Kayley sound pretty much the same - they're 'new american' names to me the both of them.

About the others - Erila is not a name that I've heard of before. Might sound ok in English but from the Finnish perspective it sounds a bit like an abbreviation of the word for different ie erilainen. It's not a name in Finnish.

Mutta teit sen verran virheitä, ettet varmasti ole mikään amerikkalainen! Mistä muuten arvasit, että juuri tämä on nimipalsta?

  • I can't really read Finnish, so can you please write your answers in English? I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!

All those names are nice but my favorites would probably be Elisa....and Eerika....and I like Marja too..my mom's name is Marja :-)
May I just say that it's really nice that you decided to give your children finnish middle names...when they grow older they probably appreciate it too cause their names are not that ordinary.
My husband's american and we're expecting our first child to be born in october and we've been thinking about giving the baby the kind of name that would be easy to pronounce in America and here in Finland...like Jada or Lisa or something like that, or if it's a boy then Lucas sounds nice....but if it's a girl then her middle name will definitely be angel.
But yea back to your subject...Kayley Elisa sounds nice to me.
Take care and good luck with the baby and everything!
