Windows 7:n lisenssien myynti ei ole ollut erityisen hääppöistä. Ilmoitus 175 miljoonan Windows 7:n lisenssistä on itseasiassa aika luonnollinen ja johtuu täysin normaalista uusien tietokoneiden myynnistä. Sen sijaan upgrade-toiminnassa Windows 7 on tosiasiassa epäonnistunut. Eteenkin firmat karttavat siirtymistä pois Windows Xp Prosta.
Siis täysin normaalin talouden elpymisen seurausta syksystä 2009 lähtien:

Gartnerin mukaan, kun huomioidaan uusien tietokoneiden myynti, Microsoftin ilmoitus Windows 7-lisensseistä ja Applen myynti on päädytty tulokseen ETTÄ MICROSOFT WINDOWS 7 ON MENETTÄNYT NOIN 40 TIETOKONEEN KÄYTTÖJÄRJESTELMÄN MARKKINAT.
Ts. Redmondissa mietitään sitä mitä on tapahtunut noille 40 miljoonalle uudelle koneelle. Niissä ei ole Windows 7:aa. Niissä ei ole Mac OS:ää. Mikä niissä on? Varmasti niissä on esim. Windows Xp tai jopa joissakin Vista. Mutta ei ole epäilystäkään, etteikö melkoinen osa niistä ole piraatti Windows-koneita tai Linux-koneita nykyisin.

...nykyisin noin 570 miljoonaa business-konetta. Mielenkiintoinen lukema ja muodostaa siis lähes 40% koko tietokonemäärästä maailmassa.
Firmat ostaneet lisenssejä ehkä 40 miljoonaa joten uusia koneita joissa ei WIndows 7:a on siis 40 miljoonaa + 40 miljoonaa = 80 miljoonaa.
Myydyistä 215 miljoonasta koneesta olisi tuon laskelman mukaan myyty 135 miljoonaa Windows 7:lla ja 80 miljoonaa ilman sitä. Myydyistä uusista n. 4%:ssa Mac jolloin mahdollisesti yli 30%:ssa on joku muu käyttöjärjestelmä tai ei käyttöjärjestelmää ollenkaan.
Missä mennään ? Joten tarvii uskoa, kun noin totisellä naamalla sen kerroit !
sillä jos on kuten Gartner ja IDC ovat tutkimuksissaan osoittaneet niin ehkä jopa joka kolmas uusi myytävä tietokone ei myydä Windows 7-käyttöjärjestelmällä. Olisi kiinnostavaa tietää kuinka moni tietokone maailmassa muuten myydään ylipäätänsä ilman käyttöjärjestelmää. Muutamat nettisaitit kertovat, että entisissä itä-Euroopan maissa, latinomaissa ja kehitysmaissa yleensäkin myydään paljon tietokoneita ilman käyttöjärjestelmää (virallisesti) ja niihin asennetaan esim. Ubuntu tai sitten piraatti-versio Windowsista. Veikkaan piraattikoneiden osuuden olevan aika suuren.
Tilastoja sotkee ja aiheuttaa hämminkiä se tosiseikka, että etenkin kehitysmaiden miljoonat Windows-piraattikopiot näkyvät käytönseurantatilastoissa mutta eivät myynnissä. Suomessakin on Windows Seiska Ultimatea käytössä kodeissa aivan perkeleesti. Montako myytyä? ; )
