Olen Hollannissa olevan Alliance of Natural Health'n postilistalla. He yrittävät levittää tietoa siitä, miten toukokuun alusta lähtien kaikki yrtit ovat EU:ssa laittomia, ellei niitä ole erikseen laitettu sallittujen listalle. Kiinalaisen lääketieteen käyttämät kasvit luokitellaan huumeiksi ja myrkyiksi. Tässä pätkä heidän sähköpostistaan:
"Hmmm…how long have you got? Picking highlights from such a packed year is tricky, but the problems facing the use of botanical and herbal products probably hits the top spot. Reviewing our own activities, the single campaign into which we’ve expended most effort is that relating to the effects of full implementation of the European Union’s Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive (THMPD). Unless challenged, this fundamentally flawed legislation will see thousands of herbal medicinal products become illegal on 1 May 2011, which the EU seems to think is just fine.
Users of herbal medicine and herbal practitioners from all over the EU have been deluging Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) with complaints, which has put the issue squarely on the map. Of course, many of those making their voices heard are ANH-Intl supporters! We can’t thank you enough for getting involved in this critical issue, but we need your support more than ever in 2011 as we move toward our judicial review of the THMPD.
Actually, all the vitamin-bashing has served a useful purpose, by revealing what may be pharma’s new game plan: to muscle in on the lucrative dietary/food supplement market. Coupled with the likely ridiculously and unscientifically low maximum permitted levels of vitamins and minerals in supplements promised by the European Union (EU), the idea appears to be to scare people away from supplements and make high-dose supplements unavailable over the counter. Most people will then have little option but to use conventional drugs when they get sick, and some of these (oddly enough) will believe this is their safest course of action. At the same time, people who really want to use higher dose, therapeutically-active natural products will only be able to use them if they are prescribed by a medical doctor. This, in our view, is good for pharma, good for orthodox medicine, but bad for the public. First, you need to be sick to get them, which is a kick in the teeth for preventative health care. Second, most medical doctors know precious little about the benefits of micronutrients as they receive no training on this at medical school. The reality is that the millions of people who have benefited from food (dietary) supplementation know better. They’ve experienced the results themselves and they cannot be dissuaded by pro-pharma, anti-vitamin propaganda."

Mukana on ayurveda-touhaajia vaikka suuntauksen piirissä yleisesti kannatetaan jopa massiivisten raskasmetalliannosten syöttämistä yrttivalmisteiden mukana. Sitten samassa organisaatiossa puuhailevat homeopaatit, jotka taas eivät käytä valmisteissaan mitään vaikuttavia aineita vaan pitävät niitä vahingoittavina.
Nämä porukat eivät ole edistämässä ihmisten turvallisuutta vaan raha on ainoa, mikä kiinnostaa.
