I would miss my family and friends of course. I miss baskin robbins hehe, it's an ice cream bar, I also miss the weather..I am from California, USA, so I miss the sunshine and the warm weathers. The best thing is, I think, the weather =)

  • I miss Sorrentinos Pizza / Family size.

We used to buy one every sunday to watch Buffalo Bills play football.

    I miss real winters too.

Sunshine. A rare thing around here.. I understand missing that.
-But missing "real winters"? Thats interesting. This year has been quite "real" to me anyway. BRH.
Funny, I have missed those delicious looking like ice cream bars afround here too.. the ones where you can also buy pies and have a good cup of real coffee. I spent time in NY few years ago and I MISS those flavors. Some day there will be proper ice cream bar in every town and village in Finland. I do belive its gonna happen!! (in summer) : )

  • Hei,

why don't you open such an ice cream bar yourself?

It would be a good investment. I bet the people would love it.

I have actually thought a lot about starting my own business in the area of food/drinks/delicates. I give your proposal a serious thought. Name suggestions?

I spent few months in Nizza few years ago and I find myself missing that sertain odour of one small bakery. I never bought a thing from there but still.. fresh bread and something sweet in the air.. I miss that moment when I passed that place. Morning. Not too hot. Life is mellow. An old man sitting and drinking coffee every day at the same place at the same time.(sigh) Funny how some tiny things for some reason just keep existing in your "good memories - closet". : )

    Moi,

yes, I've got some similar memories (St. Tropez)and I had also some plans about opening a kind of little café in Finland. The problem was/is the money....

Well, if I could realize my plans then it would be a tiny café where you can buy fresh bread in various sorts, buns and lye-biscuits which I really love (especially with cheese, hmmmm). But for that you need a baker.
The café would offer a lot of different sorts of coffee, of course, and cakes, tarts and pies made after international recipes. Since I make my own pralinés (I have seen the film "Chocolate" a bit too often :-))) I would sell them in the café. And people should enjoy ice cream, not that ordinary stuff (lemon, strawberry and so on) but specialities like Prosecco ice cream or croquant.
The interieur of the café should be a bit French but not too trashy.

And I also think about cocktails. Two years ago I asked "Alko" if they were interested in publishing my self-written cocktail book but they denied :-(( because of the special situation in Finland concerning alcohol.

Well, my café should be somehow "bohemien" and attract people who really like to enjoy delicate things. What are your ideas?

First I thought startinf a cafeteria called the Cream in Turku, but I found out, that the name was already taken. Also the premises were really expensive in that town, so I kind of burried that thought for a while. You must have a lot of profit before reaching the critical point when you actually start to make some money with your business,. After that I´ve numerous plans in Finland, Spain, Sarajevo... yes and in Jamaica,: ) and still there are few people who are interested to join "my forces when the time comes".. It will be a cross kitchen/bar/cafe (divided sections) with traditional french style with a herbie name. But that ice cream bar is a very tasty idea as well. I just need a lot of capital and 7 good workers luck, hard work and a miracle.
    A lottery could be a solution.. ; )

It's always the same. People have got some good ideas but not enough money to realize them. To start an ice cream bar might not be as expensive as a traditional café. But as you have already mentioned you need a financial "pad" till you reach the profit mark.

How do you think about franchising? Would that be an idea to start your own business? Maybe an established bar/restaurant or whatever owner is interested in sponsoring your idea. A kind of featuring. Example: The Hearbie Ice Cream Bar featured by Uniq Club (an ice bar/club in Helsinki, maybe you know it). Then ice and ice cream would be together:-).
