I think the meaning of the word varies between the areas in Finland, but I think there is no such word in English, this is just one of those specialty words which every language has. For me nalkki is used when someone's stuck between two or more "things" and is not able to get away from the situation. Esim. Mies on nalkissa kahden puun valissa -> a man is stuck between two trees.

That is what nalkki means...I´ve heard of foxes that can get themselves in trouble like that. You can´t get rid of your mating partner until the appointed time...

Of course it´s being used in other contexts to describe about some certain difficult situations you´ve got yourself into as well. "You are in nalkki" can mean that you´re trapped somehow or arrested, stuck etc.

"Nalkki" alone doesn´t mean anything. It cannot be tranlated.

Nalkki = Trapped, Busted
jäädä nalkkiin = get caught, get stuck

Jäänyt nalkkiin....= Been stuck...(for example between two women ;)) The word nalkki in its own doesn`t mean much except maybe a trap or something but the expression is more important; jäädä nalkkiin = stuck in smth, jäänyt nalkkiin=been stuck on smth etc. If I`m wrong please somebody correct me :)
