My brother in law has a clk320. Me him and a
friend of mine decided to race our cars for the
hell of it. First race (my tires were badly worn
from doing doughnuts a while ago) I am the only
one in my car while my friend and BIL were in the
benz. I smoke the shit out of my tires (traction
is off) and so I went no where while he was long
gone. At that point I was pissed. They are like "
what happened?!" They thought that they were the
ones screeching their tires. Now second race. I
spin my tires but let off a little bit because he
is gaining on me. I shift to second @ redline.
With every gear, I seem to be violently gaing on
him but I lose with the shift. He wins by a small
margin (road only allows us to get to 65.. 70
before we have to slow down). I am really
disappointed because all 3 of us expected the 540
to demolish (I still maintain that it can but
perhaps with better tires) the benz. We do it for
a 3rd time. I win by half a cars length. On the
way home, I was following him and every time he
floors it from a dead stop, I am able to keep up
with him and pass him given a good strip to pass.
When he follows me and we do the same, he can't
keep up and the gap between us grows. I left with
the following impression. Although the 540 is
considered to be allot faster than the 320, I
think these 0-60 numbers only translate to a
small distance (I consider half a cars length or
even full cars length to be a small distance) I
guess I can now better gauge how acceleration
times translate to actual distance. The
difference isn't as big as I thought. On the
parkway and doing about 70 (both of us) I had to
work the 540 hard to pass him. We both got to
about 120 before we eased off (I know he has a
limiter on his car @ 130 or so where as mine is
155)
My friend who was sitting in the passenger side
of the 320 with his window open said that when we
were racing at the lights, my car was loud and
scary because it "lept" forward but I had to
shift and so the "leap would sieze" and then it
would leap again. He described it as "scary"!
Any way.. I would like to think of my self as
good in driving a manual. I have been doing so
since I was 14. I did not race or anything
although I won this bmw race thing in Long island
(they were automatics so may be they don't count)
Maybe with better tires and good practice I can
have a perfect run and beat the 320 by more than
just half a cars length. It was fun. At cruising
speed 540 feels like you are doing much less than
you really are. Not the case with the benz.

Kaikki "Kuis kävi?" nimimerkkiä käyttävät ihmiset
potevat nuoren iän eturauhasvaivaa. Nimimerkki
johtuu heidän sairastavaisten kesken käytetystä
sanonnasta "Kuis kävi?", jonka kaveri heittää
toiselle, juuri kuselta tulleelle, potilaalle.
Yleensä jatko kuuluu "Osuitko pönttöön?".
Ymmärrettävistä syistä tuo jatko on jätettävä
liian pitkänä kokonaisuutena pois.
Kokeile erilaisia hoitoja, ehkä jokin tärppää.
