Ten Rules for Diesel Maintenance


1.   Keep your engine clean and in adjustment, so that your job in your company shall be secured and you will receive a raise in your pay.


2.   Know your engine and all its parts and functions; else you will be in some troubled spot.


3.   Do not play your own ideas with the engine. Remember the factory instructions and keep the engine accordingly, so that repairs will be the least.


4.   Do not be over – confident, for no man knows all about Diesel Engines. The truly wise man absorbs much knowledge and exudes little for he who so does shall gain reputation among his fellows and favour among his superiors.


5.   For all things in life that you desire, you shall also pay a duty and for the wisdom of experience, success, advice from a multitude means nothing and is usually worth just that.


6.   In the books you may read what to do and when, but only the voice of experience may tell you why and how, else your reading of what and when shall but plague you with smoke.


7.   God made the earth to rotate endlessly without bearing, or oil, but not your diesel.


8.   Do not curse your engine when it does not turn. Curse rather your own stupidity.


9.   Steam engines and gas engines may long turn over, though sloppy – a diesel not so.
With gauges and mikes be you ever busy.


10.   God watches universal operations, but you shall not rely upon it as to your diesel.
   Your own vigilance is the price you pay for the job.
