Peugeot's 206 and award-winning 307 are now
available with a lightweight eight-valve, 1.4-
litre HDi turbo diesel engine.
Fuel consumption on the combined drive cycle is
65.7mpg for the 206 and an impressive 62.8mpg for
the larger 307.
As a result, both cars should prove attractive to
private motorists and company car drivers, as
they will also reduce fuel and tax bills.
The 206 has a top speed of 104mph, but suffers
from sluggish acceleration, going from 0-60 mph
in 15 seconds. The 307 is no trail blaser either,
with a maximum speed of 102 mph and 0-60 mph in
16.3 seconds.
Peugeot say this is a groundbreaking direct
injection, turbo-diesel because it weighs just 98
kg, some 50 kg less than the 1.9-litre engine it
is replacing.
The engine is available on the Peugeot 206 Style,
Eco and LX models, and on the 307 Style three and
five-door and LX five-door model.
Prices start at £8,895 for the 206 Style and
£11,560 for the 307 Style 3 door model. The 307
is currently on sale and the 206 1.4 HDi will be
available in January.
