"There more I think about, the more I like this system. It's somewhat like a physical form of P2P, in that your available selection is based on what other people share. But instead of receiving mp3s, you receive an actual original CD.
Because the original CD is required to be shipped, that prevents people making many copies of the CDs and sending out the copies. This reduces the likelihood of the "mass piracy" accusations.
What could happen is that each receiver makes a copy for themselves before sending it out to another user, but since the next receiver has to pay to receive it, the artist gets two payments for 1 original CD. In fact, if you stretch this argument out, an artist can have 1 original CD passed around 100 users, each one making a copy for themselves, and the artist got paid 100 times, from just 1 original CD! And all 100 users get to keep their music, albeit not an original CD. But it's still a win win for everyone. Not bad!
