He says the estate has the looks of the 9-3x from the rear, with the pronounced hocky-stick curve and stacked rear light cluster.
He said that to compete with Audi the convertable will come out first, and then the estate. Expect the convertable 2003, and the estate late 2003,early 2004. All the engineering work is complete now, and Hirsch has done all it's tuning work now for the new 9-3 range.
He also said that 9-3x was close to completion, and that in the R&D section at Saab, a contact of his that is working on R&D for Kenwood (who are an infotainment supplier on the new 9-5, and now current 9-3) said he saw 4 running prototypes.
The 9-5 v8 is currently only being tested for suitability with no plans as yet to build. The v8 is the cadillac northstar unit, one of the best engines in the world.. able to run 100,000 miles between services and can shut down cylinder banks to conserve fuel...
Diesel options are going to get VERY juicy soon on the new 9-3 -- currently the new 9-3 gets the same TID 125hp Direct Injection diesel in the existing 9-3, all be it fitted better in the car. The engine doesn't use a subframe, has better bushing and an improved balancer shaft - now the engine has hardly any vibration and inside the car it's much much quieter than in the old car. I know cause I was in one today!
However, the Saab WILL be getting a revised version of the AlfaRomeo 2.5 JTD 5cyl diesel in the 9-3 next year - which will sit with 160HP as standard, and you can bet Hirsch will have had their way with that!
He also mentioned that the 4x4 drive train will be available on the 9-3.. and that there WILL be a 9-3 version with 300HP and 4x4..and it will prolly be a v6 to face up to American buyers who want a car with more than 4cyls..
He also mentioned that GM are currently studying whether or not to make a coupe/sportster model in the vain of the Sonnet 3, based upon a US GM model that is being developed to go head to head with the new BMW Z3 and SLK."

Markin viesti on sitten viime lokakuulta eli ei ihan viimeisintä tietoa mutta suuntaa antavaa kuitenkin.
Kovin on suuria suunnitelmia, huomioon ottaen viime viikkojen uutiset. Uskoisin että tämä vuosi ratkaisee paljon Saabin kohtalosta.
