I am sure most foreign men will agree that Finnish romance does not last. Women in Finland seem very predictable, easy to fall in love, passionate from the beginning, want to get married, then suddenly without any warning signs, fall out of love and want a divorce. It applies to both educated and uneducated Finns, professionals and non-professionals. They seem to have the same mother so to speak and all behave the same. Usually in most of these divorces, it is the kids who suffer in the long run, but these women will not factor in the hurt and pain of these innocent children, but will go ahead to annul the marriage/relationship and do it with mercilessly. They do not care about the consequences of their actions, and they enjoy it, even when kids are involved. Often they give flimpsy excuses as to why they do not want to continue. Counselling and therapy would not even save the marriage. What is the problem with women of Finland, why is divorce so rampant in this society? The institution of Marriage do not have any meaning to them? Any ideas to make marriages work? Is divorce a cultural trait to Finns as is binge drinking? What is the meaning of love to Finns? What value do people attach too marriages in this country? Has morality declined with the independent Finnish women? Any ideas?

Interesting observation Axel. Is there love at all in life? How different are Finnish women from women in general? Too many divorce cases, too many broken hearts, too many depressed people in Finland. Its a lonely and cold country and dishonest Finnish women, who are mostly not in touch with their emotions make this country more difficult to live in. I will prefer the cold Finnish winter to a cold heart of their women.

N.Nifa knows nothing and your advice should be garbage canned. Axel, I have had relationships with three finnish women. At the time when I was in a committed relationship with each of them at seperate times in my life, they were aged nineteen, twenty and twenty-six, respectively. Also, note that these women were from different regions of finland or lived abroad. A few things I found they all had in common:

1) They smoked and drank. When I disapproved of it they did it in secret. And I was the bad guy. Caring about her health and mine apparently was wrong.
2) They flirted with other men while I was present. They demonstarted lack of respect for the integrity of the relationship.
3) Very sensitive to the point they throw these baby-like temper tantrums.
4)Finally the most dysfunctinal trait was when I offered emotional security and reassurance they became fridgid and "numb". As if they couldn't handle it. Or it was too much, they felt trapped. Well, If a finnish woman talks about marriage and children and a loving & secure relationship, why all of a sudden get cold feet. (She thought about it and the novelty wore out.)

From my experiences and knowledge of finnish women from family, friends, social and psychological profiling from text-books and forums most of which is secondary source information, I conclude that finnish women [not all], but a large majority enjoy independence, "free-will" and feel trapped by commitment. Then when they look at their peers who have successful marraiges/relationships, they become envious and turn into basket cases and shut out their partner thinking they can have a better life with someone else. Perhaps a "Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt" type. Finnish women [mostly young ones] don't have realistic goals or perception on relationships and what it should be. They have this type of scatter brain syndrome. Most finnish women are emotionally deficient from up-bringing and carry this baggage to adulthood and the finnish woman makes the man in her life pay for the in-justices her parents have committed to her in childhood.

TY its amazing the indepth knowledge you have about Finnish women. I think majority of those I met seemed to be emotionally bankrupt, lack morals, no values and mentally imbalanced. One intriguing observation is that, with all the sophisticated advances in technology Finland enjoys, majority of Finnish women are less sophisticated and lack self-respect. Sex is love to them and their God is sex. They don't fear anything and virtually experiment with men's feelings. It simply does not add up, and they are causing innocent children to suffer. Invariably, they emotionally and mentally abuse children without regard to the consequences in the future. Its scary the number of abortions every year in Finland. Its indeed very disgusting when you read about the number of divorce and abortions statistics in Finland. Lord have mercy!

Dear axle,
I guess there is a point in your discussion , Finn women are sometimes so deperessed, and they feel like they need love, and when they fill in love thats not the limit, they need to experience another relation becasue they get bored so quickly, and they want to change and look for something new with someone new that does different things than the first one, they are sometimes so preservatives but with a new relation they are more open than a pornstar, but from my point of view, they think that its life and they want to savor it the way they think it to the last drop if may I say, and they like to experience all kinds of love with many different flavors of men and so on and so on.. and they prefer latins and northin americans, they think that they are best in bed and can be proud of no matter what is the case..
they are so sensetive when it comes to someone that hurt them, but once you live with them they feel that you are already there when they need you and it does not matter if they go here and there for a little fun while already the one they got is at home cleaning and preparing supurb...
this is my situation with one of the Fiins, sorry to bring it up, but thats a fact that they think of love more than any other nation does, but the love they are thinking of is just bed and fun, till they get bored then its time to another experience..

I been to finnland on several occassions (mainly 2 watch FC Atlantis and visit friends) - and i find it a very depressing place to be. There seems to be a general sense of disappointment and frustration everywhere (especially in Turku). I like the finnish people in general (think the women are rather fat & butch though) and enjoy their company when they drink.

In my experience they are not any different from men of other nationalities, except for the fact that they don't seem to be as romantic in the courtship phase of a relationship: there are not so many roses, gifts, etc etc. Once the honeymoon is over, they tend to be just like other men, for example suddenly deaf when they hear things like "please take out the trash" and suddenly they are back to normal when they hear the word "sex".
One thing you might want to take note of though. I'm not the first one to say this. Finnish men can be a little misleading on their expectations of their girlfriends/wives. They say that they want their partners to be equal and liberated blah blah blah, but in reality they seem to want their wives to fill the role of both 1950's housewife and modern career woman. Of course there are a few exceptions, so you just have to hope you're lucky to find an exception.
Hope that helps.

My boyfriend, however, is the best thinkable one. When I saw him, I only thought he would be handsome and intelligent, but when I got to know him, I noticed that he is also extremely nice, sensitive and a real gentleman. He does everything to make me happy. He cooks, he cleans up, he buys me gifts if he has money to, he picks me up from everywhere if he has a car...and he is extremely good in bed, too. He makes anything to make me get an orgasm, he doesn´t really even need sex, but he likes it though. And what is he for a man? A pure Finn, of course. Naturally I have also met terrible Finnish men, but they have mostly been ice-hockey players. Also my best friends, Finnish men, seem pretty much like my boyfriend...I can´t tell what the most Finnish men are like, but however, all are definitely not farting and smelling swines.

Good question, CC. I would say that a great deal of Finnish men is very sexy. They have a very masculine body, are silent, melancholic and mysterious, charmant gentlemen and good in bed. You have to put a bit work in breaking the ice, getting trough to them. That makes them interesting. They usually also don't get on your nerves with with talking rubbish.
Then, there are of course also those extremely shy men who are nearly in their forties but never had a real date - those you have to try to avoid, they often have some mental problems, or at least an alcohol problem ...
Then, there are of course also those men who are quite open from the beginning on and whith which you can talk about whatever. They are outgoing, laugh a lot and like parties. That's the city type or that one who has spent at least a year abroad :).

In a longer relationship .. well, it's my first really long relationship, so I can't compare it to anything. I can't see there any major differences to relationships of other international people I know. We have maybe a bit more well-matched relationship and share all possible housework and so on like some other couples I know. Otherwise, we have our ups and downs like everybody.
Then, we like to do those "Finnish" things like sauna, sitting next to campfires, mökkiloma, ... . But nearly all internationals (I mean mixed couples like we or some of the same nationality) living in Finland use to do the same.

Mutta ollaan me onnellisia joilla onni on.
