One little mean machine...
Litratehot vaan kasvavat... Suzuki Hayabusa tuottaa jo melkoisen litratehon, mutta osattiin sitä ennenkin:
Alfra Romeo Stradale (street) kehitti "pahimmillaan" parilitraisesta V8-moottoristaan 260 heppaa ja tämä tapahtui jo kultaisella 60-luvulla... Alfalla oli näitä V8 koneita muitakin, mutta tämä oli pirtein ja lyhytiskuisin.
Kisoissa revittiin vielä lisää tehoja...
Auto muuten painoi n. 700 kiloa ja huiput olivat 160 mph (lähes 260 km/h).
Aika hyvin sen ajan parilitraiselta vaparilta !
"CONSTRUCTION
The svelte body was designed by Franco Scaglione but actually produced by Carrozzeria Marazzi. Marazzi was a small body shop outside Milan started by a former employee of Carrozzeria Zagato, and the employees hand-built each unique Stradale under the hands-on direction of Sig. Scaglione. The outer body skin is completely aluminum, surrounding large diameter tubes made of steel set up in an "H" pattern, lined with bags inside them to serve as a fuel cell and a cast magnesium front sub frame, specially made by Campagnolo, where the suspension, brakes and steering units are mounted. At the rear, two large diameter magnesium castings hold the engine and gearbox. Minimal road going equipment and interior trim was fitted, keeping the weight down under 700kg.
The rear-mounted lightweight alloy V8 DOHC engine is outwardly somewhat similar to two Alfa four cylinder motors in a vee, and has been compared to the V8 of the Alfa Montreal, but actually is quite different and radical in design internally. Relatively small at 2.0 liters, but quite over square (bore 78mm, stroke 52mm), it produces about 260 hp, more than the 230 hp of the detuned but larger 2.6 liter Montreal. The motor itself was designed by the mastermind of the Giulietta engine, Orazio Satta Puliga, and his assistant Giuseppe Busso. Though believed by some to be a derivation of the similar power plants Chiti was formerly doing at ATS, the engine design actually may be an offshoot of the first Alfa V8 one-off experiments from the late thirties. The engine appeared in three formats, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 liters. The rest of the drive train is revolutionary as well. A familiar sight today, the transaxle concept was fairly innovative for Alfa at the time. The six-speed gearbox and final drive ratio of 9:41 seem to work quite well together and the car accelerates to frightening speed in the blink of an eye. Or so it seems."
