he toivat mukanaan naisiaan, jotka pukeutuivat burkhaan peittäen kasvonsa, ja he eivät halunneet tehdä ulostustaan ulkoilmassa.
Tähän työhön liittyvä häpeän leima on siirtynyt sukupolvilta toisille.

The Muslims when they came to India brought with them their women
who used Burgua (veil) to cover their faces, so they did not like to defecate in
the open. The bucket privies were, therefore, designed and constructed for
their defecation in privacy. Those made captives were forced to clean latrines
and throw human excreta at distant places. After those captives were
released, they were not accepted by their caste men; hence they formed a
separate caste of “Bhangis”. This class became a hereditary occupational
group with a fixed role and status in the society. The nature of work pushed
them to the lowest stratum of the social hierarchy.
The human beings of a particular class called “scavengers” make
house-to-house collection of human excreta in buckets or baskets and carry
them on head, shoulders or hand for disposal. What a painful paradox exists.
The people carrying out this work are looked down or even considered
untouchables by those who derive the benefit of their services. The stigma
attached to this profession has passed down from generation to generation.

He vain kykkivät pelloilla.

...All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action...
