I have
researched many of the studies that have looked at the possible affects
of stress in the mother on the foetus in pregnancy. Without exception
they all studied pregnant women with prolonged stress, for example women
having stress throughout the majority of their pregnancy. This is
probably because different types of stress in pregnancy is unfortunately
very common. Your stress although very distressing at the time was
fortunately what would be considered as short term.
Different studies have linked long term stress with some pregnancy
complications like premature birth which obviously was not the case with
yourself as you delivered a healthy sized full term baby which is very
reassuring. In regard to the studies looking at hyper-active disorders
in pre-school children the results are inconclusive and would not be
relevant to your circumstances.
Your doctor is correct in his response that you should have nothing to
worry about with your daughter, enjoy her childhood.
