In addition to the sad arrival of MAXIM M (ex HAMBURG, HANSEATIC, MAXIM GORKIY), the dismantling of other once celebrated passenger ships continues. TEXAS TREASURE (ex ST GEORGE, etc.) is now 75% demolished; SERENA (ex MERMOZ, SERENADE) is almost finished off; KINGDOM (ex FINNJET, DA VINCI) is 60% gone; CROWN (ex BLACK WATCH, CROWN M, BYBLOS) is 50% gone; and TOPAZ (ex EMPRESS OF BRITAIN, QUEEN ANNA MARIA, CARNIVALE, FIESTA MARINA, OLYMPIC, THE TOPAZ) is cut back to her funnel housing.

Despite published reports stating QE2 is being scrapped at Dubai (which has no such facility), the renowned liner was recently taken out for a "test drive" to keep her engines in running order while a decision is made on what to do with the ship in the world economic downturn. Owners, Nakheel, state firmly that the QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 is not for sale and will either be opened up to visitors "as is" or kept safely until conditions improve and work on the vast conversion can be undertaken to make the ship into a luxury hotel at the Palm Jumierah. QE2 was recently "visited" by former fleetmate QM2, when the latter berthed at Dubai just aft of the QE2 during her 2009 world cruise.

The SS United States Conservancy released the following, relatively optimistic news today: "The current owner of the SS UNITED STATES has informed the SS United States Conservancy that important conditions have been imposed on the terms of the ship's sale. Star Cruises, parent company of Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), has disclosed that the ship will only be sold to a U.S. buyer and will not be sold for scrap. The vessel has now officially been listed with the Florida-based ship brokerage, Southport Atlantic (contact information: [email protected]) with these terms of sale in place."

REGAL EMPRESS slipped out of Fort Lauderdale last night for Freeport, Bahamas, where she will spend the next few weeks being inspected by potential buyers, including at least three scrap merchants. Eric Beeson of Tulsa, Oklahoma watched on inletcam.com and reports: "There were several local boats outside the inlet that gave REGAL a flash and a toot on the way out. Same thing for the lobstermen in the port, seems like many who have seen her as part of their daily landscape the past few years wanted to say goodbye. And yes, she did give her signature horn blast on the way out -- I was very pleased to hear that."
Update: Brokerage reports state that the venerable ship has been sold to Indian shipbreakers for US$215 per ldt (approximately US$3 million).

No mitä vittua iniset, kerran purettu aina purettu. Olin Poosuna Jetissä enkä kaipaa niitä ns.hyviä aikoja. Surkeet sellit ja vitun ahdistavat muuringit jne..voi voi kun sitä nyt sit puretaan siellä intiassa..Tosi surkeeeta hei nisset ja nasset, onko teillä vittu edes omaa elämää kuin JETTI.....murehtikaa hieman muutakin, esim. pientonniston skiglareita kuinka siellä voidaan..
Ihmetyttää minuakin tämä jatkuva parkuminen jostain vanhasta romukasasta. Nykymerenkulussa on paljon tärkeimpiäkin asioita. Poosu minäkin.

Jetistä en sano mitään, kun ei romurauta kiinnosta. Eikä sen enempää fiilistely vanhalla lautalla.
Mutta kuten viestissäsi sanoit, on hyvä katsoa tätä hetkeä ja merimiestemme oloja. Parhaana esimerkkinä pikkutonnarit. Ensinnäkin, miten vuonna 2009 voi olla laillista sellaiset työolosuhteet ja riisto? Työehtosopimukset on laadittu kabinetissä pienessä konjakissa, ei ajateltu todellisuutta. Miehitystodistukset annetaan naurettavan pienelle henkilöstölle, jolloin esimerkiksi lepoajat ei voi koskaan totetutua. 3-4 viikkoa parin tunnin pätkissä nukuttuna vie veronsa. Joku varmaan sanoo, että tulee varmasti ainakin hyvät ylityökorvaukset. Joku voisi sanoa että maksetaanko niitä?
Sitten kun on työpäivä takana, varsikkeita on kertynyt 0,8. Ja varmasti työmäärä on kovempi kun "normaalin" sopimuksen piirissä seilaavilla. Kertokaa viisaat, mistä tämäkin "etu" on repäisty? Ei mitään perustetta. Noh, varustamo säästää ulosmaksuissa yms.
Listaa voisi jatkaa vaikka kuinka. Nyt varmasti tähän tulee rakentavaa kommenttia, mm. mitäs siellä seilaat? yms. Noh, en sanonut että niillä seilaan. Monella vaan ei ole vaihtoehtoa, jos meinaa vesillä olla. Vaikka haluja olisi muualle, ei paikkoja ole missään. Tätä se vaan on. Sääliksi vaan käy niitä, jotka joutuvat repimään leivän pöytäänsä näissä olosuhteissa.
Mielestäni ihan ok että joku Finnjetistä ja muista "Alangin " laivoista täällä foorumilla infoa jakaa. Uutta ja mielenkiintoista ainakin itselleni oli QE2.seen liityyvä info.
