Miten asennan .tar.gz ohjelmat?

Hieman parjattua Copy/Pastea.

Esimerkkinä Netscapen asennus:

*Installation Instructions -- Unix

1. If you are installing from the CD:
- Change to the Linux directory on the CD:
cd linux. Then skip to step 3.

If you are downloading from the Netscape site:
- Download the
netscape-i686-pc-linux-gnu-installer.tar.gz
archive.

2. Type one of the following to gunzip and
untar the archive:

tar -zxvf netscape-i686-pc-linux-gnu-installer.tar.gz

OR

gzip -dc netscape-i686-pc-linux-gnu-installer.tar.gz | tar xvf -

3. Change to the directory that contains the
Netscape installation files:
cd netscape-installer

4. Run the Netscape Installer with the run
script:
./netscape-installer

5. Follow the on-screen instructions to
complete the installation process.

6. To start Netscape, change to the directory
where you installed it and run the program:
./netscape
The program starts automatically the first time.

kirjoita konsolissa (xterm, gnome-terminal, konsole jne..)

tar zxf ohjelma-1.0.tar.gz
cd ohjelma-1.0
./configure
make
make install
make clean

Tuo make clean ei ole pakollinen toimenpide. Toi ohje siis pelaa jos se oli sorsapaketti ja sun koneella on ohjelmointiympäristö asennettuna.

Kannattaa lukea myös mahdolliset README ja INSTALL tiedostot.

Yleensä ne ohjelmat asentuu /usr/local polun alle, sen voi muuttaa jos kirjoittaa
./configure --prefix=/usr

Ohjelman poistaminen onnistuu (melko usein)
make uninstall
