Ciscon suuryrityspuolen reitittimien ydin on ollut sen omalla IOS-systeemillä. Ciscolla on kuitenkin myös pienempien yritysten oma reititin systeemi, joka toimii Linuxilla.
Nyt Linuxin merkitys Ciscon reititinjärjestelmässä näyttää olevan myös lisääntymässä. Cisco nimittäin näkee juuri pienempien yrityksten reititinsysteemien merkityksen olevan kasvussa:

"For us to be able to drive the price points in this market space and the complexity down, these are not IOS-based products," Mark Monday, Cisco's vice president and general manager of small business solutions, told InternetNews.com. "It is a Linux underlying operating system."

Ciscon kurssia olen tekemässä ja niillä väitetään mm. että BSD on GPL-lisenssin alainen, vertaillaan GPL ja kaupallisia sovelluksia ja kerrotaan että GPL-softat sopivat ohjelmoijalle, joka tykkää työskennellä isojen koodimäärien kanssa tjsp, ihan kuin se olisi tarpeellista... Muutenkin kokeissa on Windows specifistä juttua, ei paljoa, ei ehkä liikaakaan, mutta kun kysytään että mitä tietoja löytyy Explorerin Help -> About Windows jutusta, niin alkaa olla sellaista että huhhuh...
