There has been a major change in the numbers reported by the CDC. Since September 1st, and until this past week, the CDC was reporting total pneumonia and influenza syndrome (P&I) deaths as well as laboratory-confirmed H1N1 deaths. The sum of those two numbers was being reported on this thread as the U.S. total. For some reason, the CDC stopped reporting P&I deaths, so we are now left with laboratory-confirmed H1N1 deaths only. The U.S. total for this week is based on the FT tally for the U.S. and not on CDC data. This results in an overall decrease in the global tally of 1,780 this week, as compared with last week. I will substitute the FT total for past weeks and post weekly global totals in a subsequent thread for those who might want to graph the data and look at trends.
