"Oscar-nominated actress Julianne Moore is to star in Finnish director Antti J. Jokinen’s new film, Nicolas North. The movie will be shot in Rovaniemi and North Karelia.
Shooting is expected to begin next spring, and the film is scheduled to premiere in Christmas 2011.
Jokinen, who has gained recognition for his work as a music video and commercial director in the United States, says he drew inspiration for the film from the Kalevala, the Finnish national epic.
A group of internationally renowned film professionals are involved in the project. Oscar-winning cinematographer Guillermo Navarro (The Hobbit, Night at the Museum and Pan’s Labyrinth) will head filming, while John Baldecchi (The Mexican) and Howard Kaplan (The Good Shepherd) are the film’s producers.
At 16 million euros, the film’s budget is exceptionally large for a motion picture produced in Finland."
