Onko tyypillistä, että vaihteen siirtimen akselin stefa vuotaa. Miten vaihdetaan, voiko vaihtaa vaihteiston ollessa paikallaan "onko ns. kikkavitosia"? Onko stefan koko 15-21-5/7? Mitäs öljyä suosittelette?
Vaihteisto vuotaa, syy?

Yes, it is very typical!
You can change it easily yourself, it is helpful if you can drive up the car on something, that you have more room under. Or just lift it up.
1. remove the exhaust system
2. remove the 3bolts from the Hardy rubber from the output shaft of the gearbox. if M10 ~55Nm, if M12 ~90Nm
3. loose the propeller (kardan) shaft central beering, two bolts. ( Mark the position of the bolts ! )
you can leave the kardan connected to the differential flange.
4. drag the propeller shaft backward and pull it of frome the outbut shaft, support and leave it to the side.
5. remove the shiftshaft from the gearbox, clipper.
6. than you can access the sealing ( sorry I don't remember the size of ZF ) > Laakkonen Oy
7. Inspect the output shaft sealing. ( I would change that too ) Get the lockplate out, and remove the 30mm nut, it is fakin' tuff!
use new lockplate.
8. Fit the things back in tha reverse order, do not forget to set a pre-tension for the central support beering of the propeller shaft, pull it forward untill the marks you did earlyer!
Fill up with Castrol SMX-B , perfect in Siberia!
( Even the smart guys tell you to fill it with ATF, DON'T DO IT! , coz that is the reasion why many of this older transmissions are leaking )
by the way, is it ZF or Getrag ?
Thank You very much to answers!
Auto is 325i 12/1985
Manual gearbox is Getrag 260
Is Castrol SMX-B oil best to manual gearbox?
by to way, where are you from!

Welcome...
Oil: for sure there are other good lubricants as well, but I use only Castrols, simply because I have the best experience with them, they are relieable, even I have noticed that availability in Finland of Castrol products can be problematic.
I wounder many times that for what a purpouse Castrol Finland Oy exists? Is it nice to work there? Do they have fine, tasty coffee in the office?
To use ATF in this older manuals it is a complete mistake, they were not designed for that, (even many people do so, coz of cold shifting problems here in the NorthPole). But ATF viscosity is absolutele not sutable for those Getrag/ZF trans. ( E36,E38,E39.... is using ATF in manuals, but there is completly different syncros.) Other important fact is, that those sealings can't stand ATF's agressive compounds. Often this causes trans. leaks and extensive wear.
To approve fine operation also in cold climat, some full-syntetic transmission lubricant would be the answer, but most of the full-synt oils causes sicronisation problems in this boxes.
There isn't a clear answer why, but it seems that mineral based oils are more sutable for this boxes. Of course they become like a glue in -20C, so they aren't good in this arctic counties.
That is why there is SMX-B, what provides smooth shifting after coldstart (of cours is a but tiffer than normal) and protects syncro rings as well. Try to find, put it in your box, and you will see it latest next winter!
If you really can't find, fill it with Syntrax Universal 75W-90, it is partly syntetic it works as well.
Even you could use single-grade engine oil in this boxes, but it is not for performance driving. And you have asked: what is the best there?
When you remove the bolts from the flexible copling, not the direction they are in, the arrow points to the nut! Check the coupling for ckacks or wear.
If you decide to change the output shaft sealing as well. When you refit the flange, first tighten the 30mm nut to 170Nm, leave it for 10minutes, than loose it completely, than tight it back to 120Nm, and insert a new lockplate!
Good luck!
