I posted recently on this thread (http://keskustelu.suomi24.fi/t/11117418), which now appears to be closed to further comments or edits. Few people bother to write positive comments about good customer service, when it happens. In this case, I think I should make some positive follow-up comments and a new post seems to be the only way to achieve this.

Since my post, and a further email from me to Verkkokulta, a very polite guy from Verkkokulta has been in touch. He has explained why my earlier emails were not read and we have come to an agreement regarding the price paid for my gold/silver.

I still think it is dishonest to advertise gold prices on the main web page but then pay substantially less than these rates in practice. I guess most people don't bother to weigh the gold they send or do any calculations, so any cash that turns up feels like a small lotto win. With a 50% divorce rate here in Finland, there's probably a large group of people for whom getting rid of the ring linking them to that cheating-bastard ex, is a lot more important than looking out some scales and a calculator. :) Hopefully this "headline pricing" gets addressed as I can't be the only person who thought this wasn't altogether ethical.

However in closing this piece, I must clearly state that the customer service I received today was bordering on the outstanding. Not only did the guy go to the trouble of an in-depth explanation, he also proposed an acceptable solution for both parties. He also went to the trouble of doing this in his non-native tongue, which was very much appreciated.
