New album news!

Ohessa kaikki mitä eri medioissa on "tekeillä olevasta levystä" kerrottu viime vuosien aikana...

December 2001:
A new album soon?
According to interviews given to French press, by Angus and Brain, Malcolm is already working on new material for the upcoming album. Here's what they said :

ROCKHARD : It seems that Malcolm is already working on new titles?

Brain : Yes, we're gonna do everything to release an album as soon as possible. Last time the fans were so angry to wait 5 years... We didn't release that it was so long. I talked to Malcolm last week and he told me that he's working on new songs.

GUITAR PART : What are your plans now ?
Angus : I think that we ain't gonna wait to much time before entering in studio because the fans tells us that 5 years without a new AC/DC record it's a little bit too long. So we have to hurry up.

January 2004:
Statement from Brian Johnson which appeared in Italy's Hard Rock magazine: "New Album To Be 'Harder' Than The Last Brian Johnson told Italy's Rock Hard magazine that the band will definitely come out with a new studio album in 2004 and that guitarist Angus Young has written
"harder" riffs than "Stiff Upper Lip". Johnson also said he will be handling lyrics this time around, which will mark the first time since 1988's "Blow Up Your Video" that Johnson will be penning lyrics for the band. He also said that
a world tour will coincide with the release of the new album."

April 2005:
AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson was interviewed by Eddie Trunk on the "Friday Night Rocks" show on New York's Q104.3 FM this past Friday (April
22). Several excerpts from the interview follow (as transcribed by
BLABBERMOUTH.NET):

On the status of the new AC/DC studio album:

"We should be getting together pretty soon. I've already been with Mal [Malcolm Young, guitar] and Ang [Angus Young, guitar] and we've run a few tunes by each other, and it's sounding great. I think Mal said it best when he said, 'We don't
wanna just bring out another album.' It's gotta be something really… It's gotta be perfect. And now him and Angus are really working hard to get something so special. I've been in the studio and I sang a few of the songs with the boys, a couple of little teasers, and I've gotta tell you, I was knocked out with the stuff they were coming up with."

On whether there is any truth to the report that the upcoming CD may be a double:

"I said the other day to somebody, I said, 'Jesus, we've written enough songs,
it could be a box set.' And Sony Records got on the phone and said, 'Don't ever say that. Don't ever say that again.' [Laughs] 'These people will be expecting one.' I said, 'I was kidding.' I think it's basically the fact that the guys
wanted as much down as possible just so we could pick some gems out. And the great thing is, there'll be a load of songs left over for something in the future — you never know."

On when he expects to begin recording the new AC/DC album:

"I haven't got a specific date, but I just know that once we start, it's like an avalanche — we just start moving, and we move quick and fast. But we do want it to be good. And I know Malcolm and Angus have stressed that they want it to be
perfect — they want everybody to have a great show, great songs… It's tough to put your finger on it, but we just want it to be good. Nobody goes in the studio to do a bad album — nobody. But this time they're looking for a 100 percent
guarantee of a great album."

On which studio they will use to record the new album:

"I don't know where we're gonna record it — you know, there's so many great studios. Last time [for 2000's 'Stiff Upper Lip'] we did in Vancouver, 'cause it was a fabulous little studio, Bryan Adams' studio [Warehouse]. He's got a great studio up there which isn't digital, which gives you lovely warm sounds — it's
analog and it's fabulous. We had a great time there, so I'm hoping we go back, but you never know — there's always another deal coming in from somebody else who's got a great studio, so you've just gotta keep your eyes and ears open."

On which producer they will use for the upcoming CD:

"I haven't got a clue. George, I love George — George Young, the boys' [Angus' and Malcolm's] brother. He's lovely. He's just great, he gets the best out of us, but so does 'Mutt' Lange, but I know Mutt wants to try to keep away from the
scene as much as possible with his lovely wife. But let's put it this way: That's the short list. And it doesn't get any better than that."

September 2005: AC/DC About To Rock With Two Mackie Digital X Bus Digital
Recording Consoles

The Young brothers of AC/DC, Angus and Malcolm, now each have one of Mackie's revolutionary new Digital X Bus X.200 recording consoles in their personal studios–located in the Netherlands and London respectively. In addition, they have both specified Mackie HDR24/96 hard disk recorders and completed their updates with a pair of Mackie HR824 Active Studio Monitors in each studio.

Acting on a strong recommendation from Paul "Pab" Boothroyd, who is AC/DC's FOH engineer and audio consultant for their recording studios, Angus also read every review and piece of information he could gather on the Digital X Bus. This was
followed by a call to Mackie and an on–site demo that showed him just how easy it was to get the most out of the new console.

Angus ultimately didn't need much convincing though–having owned and loved a Mackie Analogue 8 Bus for a number of years. This familiarity led to quick praise for how easy the Digital X Bus is to operate: "It's really useable," he commented. The Digital X Bus allows users to interface via traditional knobs and two built–in 15–inch touch screens instead of mouse and seemingly endless layers of sub–menus.

Like Angus, Malcolm appreciates the "hands–on aspect of the system", which combines a fully–functional mixing console with the ability to tap into the latest digital technology when needed. Malcolm plans to use the Digital X Bus's Mackie Control Universal layer to control his Pro Tools software.

Both Angus and Malcolm also loved the sound quality of Mackie's newest offering. In fact, when Angus was doing a demo recording with Pab, applying some of the on–board EQ and compression, Malcolm entered the studio and was amazed by what
he heard. "I thought it sounded absolutely brilliant," he later recalled. "But Mackie has always had a good rap."

In their previous studio configuration, they fed the output from their recordings into a Neve mixer, and then used separate Fairchild compressors to create the sound they casually describe as "that classic valve, phat thing."
Unfortunately, after years of service, their trusted compressors became unreliable, and the brothers were fed up with having to give them a thump every now and then to keep them going. With that, Both Malcolm and Angus opted to specify a Universal Audio UAD–1 DSP card for their new Mackie consoles–giving them faithful emulations of favorites like the 1176LN and of course, their
trusted Fairchild compressor. Each Mackie Digital X Bus will support the use of both VST plug–ins as well as accommodate up to three Universal Audio UAD–1 cards.

AC/DC records using real instruments in properly designed live rooms, so it is imperative that they get the very best from their chosen recording medium and so far, Angus and Malcolm are pleased with the recordings he is getting from his new Mackie Digital X Bus. "In the world of audio equipment, there are only a few survivors," commented Malcolm. "Mackie is one of them and they have a good name all over the world."

October 2005:
AC/DC are rumored to currently be in London working on the long awaited follow up to their album "Stiff Upper Lip". No further news or information is currently available regarding the status of the new album, the title, the release date, or tour plans at this time.

Siihen on ainakin varmasti panostettu todella hyvin. Aikaa on kulunut aivan liikaa jo.
