Israel, Lebanon, and Palestine
A letter from Chomsky and others on the recent events in the Middle East (July 19, 2006):
The latest chapter of the conflict between Israel and Palestine began when Israeli forces abducted two civilians, a doctor and his brother, from Gaza. An incident scarcely reported anywhere, except in the Turkish press. The following day the Palestinians took an Israeli soldier prisoner - and proposed a negotiated exchange against prisoners taken by the Israelis - there are approximately 10,000 in Israeli jails.
That this "kidnapping" was considered an outrage, whereas the illegal military occupation of the West Bank and the systematic appropriation of its natural resources - most particularly that of water - by the Israeli Defence (!) Forces is considered a regrettable but realistic fact of life, is typical of the double standards repeatedly employed by the West in face of what has befallen the Palestinians, on the land alloted to them by international agreements, during the last seventy years.
Today outrage follows outrage; makeshift missiles cross sophisticated ones. The latter usually find their target situated where the disinherited and crowded poor live, waiting for what was once called Justice. Both categories of missile rip bodies apart horribly - who but field commanders can forget this for a moment?
Each provocation and counter-provocation is contested and preached over. But the subsequent arguments, accusations and vows, all serve as a distraction in order to divert world attention from a long-term military, economic and geographic practice whose political aim is nothing less than the liquidation of the Palestinian nation.
This has to be said loud and clear for the practice, only half declared and often covert, is advancing fast these days, and, in our opinion, it must be unceasingly and eternally recognised for what it is and resisted.

A real solution to the Conflict in the Middle East
A fair full and lasting solution to the Middle East problems is when the International Community and specially the US will oblige Israel to respect fully the UN resolutions 242, 194, that the "Bush Road Map" mentioned at a certain time.
When Israel give back the whole 1967 Occupied territories and Palestine will have its own independent country and Independent Capital Jerusalem
And when Israel will return the Lebanese Occupied Territories and the Golan Syrian Occupied Territories,
Then I think that Hizbullah would have no reason to exist, and Hamas will have no reason to fight and if they would continue to do anything, then the whole international Community should destroy them completely. They cannot do it now with the Israel response with violence and an US green light.
We have tried this in the past violence will nourish violence. In 1982 Israel destroyed Fatah and send them out of Lebanon. But in 1982 Hizullah because of Israel violence was born. Violence had created Almujahidine in Afghanistan and then when we wanted them out we created Taliban and then Al Qaida was created, the same thing in Iraq, in Somalia. The English had the same experience, like us Americans, in India, Pakistan, Africa, the french in Algeria, we Americans had it in Vietnam.
Israel has it now for over six decades in Palestine. Violence will never resolve the problem. Violence will create more radical groups, governments, hate and terrorism. When we will understand that history is the best teacher of what we should deal with the present and build the future.
The actual violence in Lebanon will never resolve the problem. It will create more radical groups and governments, it is creating more hate and more terrorism. It will bring some governments and groups to get more unrestricted weapons to fight tomorrow the injustices and what is taken with violence as Jesus Christ said, will given back with violence.
I urge my country the US to stand foir the future of new generations, that the US would work as a country that build a better future for the world based on justice, peace and truth and not on violence.
We need to stop Samson who destroyed himself so as to destroy his enemies to continue to nourish the minds who want violence.
Friends of Israel: Help Israel to live and survive?
Only peace and justice can help Israel to live and survive.
Only if Israel and USA work for real justice and real peace in the Middle East region could help Israel to live and survive. In giving a blind eye on the injustices you are not helping Israel, the history tells you that with violence you cannot accomplish anything, already I am sure your conscience is telling you that TRUTH.
The USA and the world are working instead for violence and war, they are not helping Israel, they cannot be GOOD FRIENDS to Israel as well.
The veto will not help. On the contrary it is feeding with violence the SOUL, the SPIRIT and the WILL of those people who want to survive.
In working against JUSTICE in the Middle East you are nourishing the souls and spirits of people with anger and violence and hate, we are creating more terrorists than ever.
You are creating thousands and thousand of SAMSONS, you are creating a new MASADA.
The best way is to help Israel to make Justice. The US money for weapons will not help the future of a people who have already suffered of violence paid enough is enough using the Israeli and Palestinian people, enough using the Jews, the Christians and the Muslims of the region for economic political gains.
ONLY JUSTICE is the Solution. Work seriously to implement in full starting with the UN Resolutions 424, 194 and many others have stated. This is the only solution for violence and can build the future of the Israeli, the Palestinians, give respect to the US as a rightful broker for justice and truth.
Let us be honest. What the US and Israel is gaining with the destruction of the infrastructure of the Palestinian and Lebanese cities, water, electricity, bridges, food and the many killings....it is getting more killings and violence from them, more hate and more resistance and terrorism. Is this the real and the right solution. History tells us by experience that it did not work in many parts of the world. will it work after over six decades of violence. Honestly I do not think so. And honestly you all who read me article will agree. Stop then violence and go back to what is the real SOLUTION of all PROBLEMS. Let our children sign a song of peace, prosperity and life.
