No ECU changes are needed. To test the power
gain, simply remove the pipe that connects the
turbo to the air filter. The cons are obvious, in
dusty areas a lot of dust will enter your turbo
and don't expect regular T4 quality if you run it
like this for a long period.
We drove our 940 in a few months like that only,
too dangerous. To avoid large particles from
entering the turbo you can do the "extra air pipe
mod". In one end of the pipe (between turbo and
air filter) stick in a plastic t-connector
(probably not orrect word, it's one of thos
thingies that looks like a t and connects three
pipes... hope you understand). One end of the t-
connector goes to the air filter, the other to
the turbo. The third goes to a hand made
filter... a simple rag. This makes it easier fo
your turbo to breathe and you avoid large
particles in the turbo.
This mod workes superbly with 940 S2.3 (LPT), and
also resultet in lower consumption (manual...
auto increased by more than 10%!).
According to several friends that have done this
to the T4 it works similarly (not sure on
consumption though).
Basically what the mod does is ease breathing for
the turbo. Seems like Volvo have some kind of air
limiter between the filter and turbo that chokes
them or that regulates the maximum pressure, not
sure. It isn't inside the regular filter or the
same affect would be reached by changing air
filter. Perhaps it's the thin dimension of the
pipe than does it.
Simple test is to remove that pipe (should be
easy to find behind the engine, comes from filter
to turbo). Disconnect one end of it and go for a
spin. Remember about the warranty though. If
something happens, the entire car warranty is
void. Since you haven't reported the mod to the
insurance company they will claim that you've
tuned the car beoynd it's capabilities. Dangerous
stuff this mod. But fun in the short run.
It's easy to reconnect the tube and it leaves no
traces at all. For improved quality I recommend
the t-connector sollution but for testing
disconnecting the pipe on one end should do the
trick.
Think Volvo wanted it to be easy to build a
future S40 R. Simply change all the piping
between the air filter and turbo (that evil metal
piping just before the rubber tube you
disconnect... otherwise you'd just stick a
thicker tube between the filter and turbo and
viola... but noooo they have to make money on
it)

ilmansuodattimelta turbolle jota on "kuristettu".
Jos turbon irroittaa tuosta putkesta (turbon
päästä) tehoa tulee lisää. Voi siihen duunata
uuden putken ja laittaa sen päähän vaikka
mimmosen ilmansuodattimen rätin/tyhjän tilalle
jos tahtoo, joka on kyllä ihan kannattavaakin. T-
liitin lähestyminen tähän asiaan on varmasti
fiksuin.
Tärkeintä on saada lisää ilmaa sille puhaltimelle.
Toi modi on hinnaltaa n. 500 mk jos duunaa
kunnolla ja tehoa tulee semmoset 30 hp lissöö. Ei
huono juttu mun mielestä..
Ai 30hp lisää.. AHAHAHAH AH AHAHH!!!!!!!!! Dream
on. Itse olen Volvon koneita rakentanut kohta
12v, niin turbo kuin vapareita, kadulle ja kisaan
ja tuo koko juttu oli täyttä paskaa. Ei noilla
tehoilla vielä imuilmaputki ole juuri
mikään "kuristin", vakio Mitsun pikkupuhaltimen
tuotto loppuu jo ennenkuin putken virtauskyky.
Sitten kun siellä on iso T04 tms. paikoillaan
niin putken kokokin rupeaa jo vaikuttamaan.
No itse en ole mikään tekninen ihminen että
tuohon osaisin sanoa mitään, mutta näin
maailmalla kertovat lähteet. Ja sanovat myös eron
olevan huomattava, ~30 heppaa lataavat. Mitä omat
kokeilusi ovat paljastaneet ko. aiheesta? Oletko
koittanut tätä?
Täytyyhän sillä jotain vaikutusta olla, mutta jos
tuommoiselta kokemukselta tulee että ei kannata
kokeilla - kai sua kannattaa kuunella. :)
Eiköhän se kuitenkin riipu putkesta
onko "kuristin" vai eikö ole, jos se on
tarkotuksella tehty "tukkoiseksi"?
Missäs ne sensorit muuten on mistä vehje tietää
paljon sinne ilmaa puhaltuu ja paljon pitäs
pensaa saaha?
Bottomline sulla on että, ei kannata kokeilla,
menee paskaksi, vai? Vai onko se että ei oikeasti
toimi vai mikä?
Kun en itse tiedä, olen tietävämpien armoilla. Ja
näytää olevan näitä tietäviä useampiakin
koulukuntia.. :)
onko muuten tuosta 3,0 24 koneesta kokemuksia
viilarin näkökulmasta
suomennus ei oikein meikäläisellä toimi,mutta
itselläni on tälläinen systeemi:
turbosta ilmansuodattimeen menevään ilmaletkuun
on tehty t-haara mihin on laitettu venttiili.
jotain "virityskeinoja". Yksikin neropatti oli
poistanut hukkaportille menevän letkun ja
ahtopaineet nousi jonnekin kahteen kiloon...
Kehui että kyllä kulkee. Niinhän se kulkikin
parin päivän ajan. Ja hajonnut kone ei
todellakaan mennyt auton takuun piikkiin.
Muistakaa nyt sitten rikastaa sitä bensan
syöttöäkin, jos nostatte jollain keinolla
ahtopaineita, ettei motti räjähdä/sula!
Volvoista en tiedä mitään, mutta kai niissäkin on
jokin lastu tai ohjelma, mikä sallii
korkeamman ahtopaineenmillä(mallia viri) ja
antaa ehkä lisärikastusta tiettyyn rajaan asti.
Tai sitten bensanpaineita voidaan nostaa
bensanpaineen säätimestä tiettyyyn rajaan asti,
kunnes tarvii laittaa jo isommat suuttimet.
Ps. Hoidetaanko Volvoissa bensanpaine ohjelmalla
vai onko niissä bensanpaineen säädintä?
jees in deed, I put some karvanoppa in my volvo.
Now it is faaster than my brother lada 1200l..
Naturally, A karvanoppa-system (be it white or
red with a hint of 'rosa') is comparable to a 20-
50 shot NOS system. If the karvanoppa is scented,
expect 70 HP.
Kyselin lisää ja sain tämmöstä:
It's not as dangerous as many claim. It's just
those that haven't tried and those working for
Volvo that say that.
Proof #1:
We had our 940 S2.3 with the tube mod for three
months. We drove it on the Autobahn and all
(220kph and the sucker didn't stop
accelerating... not bad for a station wagon that
comes with 135 horsies stock, too bad our tires
were 210kph max so we didn't dare to max it
out... a friend claims he maxed his out past
240kph... the meter stopped!)
Anyways, we drove it like that with our homemade
particle filter in Croatia for two months
(Croatia = high particle density in the air)
Proof #2:
My cousins best friend has been driving his T4
with the tube mod for the last six months
(including twice on Autobahn and down in
Croatia). No problems yet.
Proof #3:
A friend of mine has had his car with that mod
since he bought his 940 S2.3 (1997), no problems
yet.
In the long run this mod is BAD for your engine.
If it wasn't Volvo wouldn't have an air filter
there at all (cheaper so they'd definetly drop
it), but for those of you that won't have the
cars more than a few years and are only looking
for extra horsies during that trip through
Germany... the tube mod is the way to go fellas.
Trying it out for a day doesn't matter when it
comes to quality.
I'm not sure as to how big the performance gain
is for the S40s but for the 940 S2.3 it was
enormous. Heck those car could barely reach
200kph before the mod and after we whopped some
serious butts on the autobahn. Whoever has one of
those LPTs, you should try it, the gain is
amazing! But remember about the warranty and
inscurance. They usually don't like homemade
tuning. Doesn't pay off to drive around with the
mod in city traffic. Also, if you have an auto
tranny the gain isn't worth the extra consumption
(increases a LOT more than with a manual, where
it actually decreases).
Mikäli oikein ymmärsin ahtopaineita haettiin
lisää ns. kotikonsteilla ja moinen kyllä
onnistuu jos laitetaan ohivuotoventtiili HUKKA-
PORTIN letkuun eli sitä kautta sadaan nostettua
paineita.Täytyy muuten olla pikkuisen tarkkana
ettei räjäytä myllyä taivaan tuuliin koska jo
muutaman kummenyksen paineen nosto vaikuttaa
tosi paljon!
Itse sain 9-5 saabin aikoinaan aika pirteäksi
ja tuli ajeltua ko. pelillä n.30.000 km ,
suorituskyvystä sen verran että väli 100-150km/t
meni virityksen jälkeen n.6 sekunnin pintaan.
