A New Škoda Superb Will Be Presented in Frankfurt

The Mladá Boleslav-based car manufacturer will
return to the prestigious D-class segment after
dozens of years through its new Škoda Superb at
the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt
next September. Although the Škoda brand was
known to produce rather small passenger cars
during the last half of century but formerly it
had manufactured upper class and luxury cars.
There were as much as fifteen big models equipped
with six-cylinder engines and three models
powered by eight-cylinder engines with 1.8- to
6.6-litre displacement in the twenties and
thirties. Introducing the new Škoda Superb model,
Škoda Auto follows in the footsteps of a strong
tradition of manufacturing big passenger cars
equipped with powerful large-displacement
engines. It is worth mentioning that Tomáš
Garrigue Masaryk, the president of the then Czech
Republic, drove one of the six-cylinder models
since 1925, and a handsome part of the production
of the big Škodas were exported to many European
countries as well as overseas.

The new Škoda Superb carries on this history even
with its name. The first luxury saloon car called
Škoda Superb made its first appearance in the
public back in 1934. The car has gradually
undergone many modifications and dramatic
modernization, and there was even a version
equipped with 4.0-litre eight-cylinder engine
producing 95bhp. This car was made until 1947.

Škoda Superb features a standard three-space body
with a very smart, timeless, dynamic though
slightly conservative design. Conception of both
exterior and interior design bears typical Škoda
features such as the typical radiator grille in a
new, larger dimension, lower placed bumper
moulding, luggage-compartment lid trailing edge
giving a dynamic impression, or rear lights
shaped with a delicate feeling for detail. The
body style with precisely elaborate details
expresses a good deal of nobleness and advanced
technology. The car is 4.8 metres long, 1.7
metres wide and 1.4 metres high. Apart from a
high level of comfort and safety, reasonable
luxury and a certain degree of prestige, Škoda
Superb will offer its potential buyers an
extremely roomy interior. The large interior
profits especially from a remarkable wheelbase
length of 2.8 metres, one of the highest in D-
Class.

The customers can choose among three petrol
engines: 2.0/115bhp, 1.8 20V Turbo/150bhp, 2.8
V6/193bhp, and two modern fuel-efficient engine
diesel engines: 1.9 TDI PD/131bhp and 2.5 TDI
V6/155bhp. The most powerful petrol and diesel
engines are V-shaped six-cylinders. These dynamic
engines make it possible to reach higher-than-
average driving performance.
