Although Delta Company Marines dislike the lack of discipline in the Iraqi Army – posts are manned either occasionally or not at all – they are most annoyed with hygienic cultural differences. Because Iraqis and Marines live in the same building, the habits of each affect the other. Men in the Iraqi Army often defecate in their rooms, or outside near doors and windows. Marines are forced to clean up the mess to keep away flies. “These guys are filthy,” said Sgt Dewayne Roper, a Delta Company scout.
