Serie A

Ascoli - Cagliari 2.30 - 3.60
With nothing to play for the last few weeks Ascoli have not stopped trying, winning their last home game, against Palermo, 3-2 for example. Their keeper Eleftheropoulos will be available this weekend, Fini, Corallo and Lombardi as well, but Bjelanovic, Di Biagio, Foglio and Nastase remain on the sidelines.
By winning vs. Roma last week Cagliari are safe in Serie A, and I have my doubts about their overall interest for this match. They have been terribly poor away from home this season and on Sunday, without motivation? Without several regulars as well. Star player Suazo will not play, no Pisano, Colucci, D'Agostino, Capone and Bianco either, and we will see a much weakened Cagliari side in Ascoli..
At the end of the day I am prepared to back the home win. (2.30)

Catania - Chievo 2.75 - 2.88
You have to feel sorry for Catania. The killing of the policeman at the Catania - Palermo derby has hit the club hard. No real home game since that day and that is why they are staring relegation in the eyes right now. Once again this home match will be played at a neutral ground, this time in Bologna.
For this crucial game Catania will be without 3 suspended regulars, Edusei, Caserta and Silvestri. Certainly bad timing. It gets worse, as their striker Spinesi and Baiocco both are serious doubts and will probably miss this decisive fixture.
Chievo need one point to stay up and they will be able to draw from the same squad as last week. While Catania failed to beat Ascoli a couple of weeks ago, Chievo have consequently picked up the expected points lately. They look stronger than Catania at the moment, no suspensions are in their way and the game will be played in Bologna. It certainly looks like Chievo will be able to manage at least the draw on Sunday.
Catania must hope that Siena and/or Reggina will fail to win their last home games. X2 then. The draw! (3.15)

Fiorentina - Sampdoria 1.70 - 7.00
Mutu and Pazienza return from their suspensions, but Toni is once again missing. His replacement, Pazzini, was probably the best Fiorentina player last week vs. Messina.
They have secured their UEFA Cup place and this game looks like a holiday fixture right now. Reginaldo will probably replace M Jörgensen up front, joining Mutu and Pazzini.
Pieri will be back for Sampdoria, but their skipper Volpi will miss this match as well as Falcone.
Maybe one should always back the outsider when nothing is at stake, but my feeling is that Fiorentina will be the more eager side this weekend. (1.70)

Inter - Torino 1.40 - 10.00
A bunch of Inter forwards will be missing again. I am thinking of Ibrahimovic, Cruz and Adriano. They still have Crespo and Recoba at their disposal. Latest news indicate that Cruz could play some part after all.
Torino are safe and they come without Stellone, Gallo and Bovo. Torino usually play very defensive and cautious in their away games, but maybe they will play a more open and relaxed match this time.
Another friendly game, in other words, but with more goals than usual, when Torino are involved. That is what I expect anyway.

Livorno - Atalanta 2.70 - 4.33
Livorno were without striker C Lucarelli last week, but it did not matter much as they played out the anticipated 0-0 draw with Torino, the draw that made everyone happy. Safe now, Livorno.
Lucarelli is expected back for this match, but missing are Kuffour and Vidigal. Amelia, their first choice keeper, was expected back, but it will probably not happen.
Atalanta really should have nicked the win at home to Inter last week, but despite creating numerous chances they could not win the match. (1-1) Resulting in no UEFA Cup campaign next season.
Missing for this match the suspended Carozzieri.
The outcome of this game in the park? You tell me! The score draw perhaps? (2.50)

Parma - Empoli 1.73 - 19.00
One additional point is all that Parma need and why should an unmotivated Empoli side stop them?
Parma will be able to draw from an unchanged squad.
Matteini and Vanigli return form their suspensions but Empoli will be without Pratali and Lucchini. Pozzi is ready to play again, but his striking partner, Saudati, risks missing this match.
1X, but of course. Home win! (1.73)

Reggina - Milan 1.25 - 8.50
Yes the above odds are correct. Could only happen in Italy, but we know that by now.
Reggina must go for the three points, but they have to do this without the suspended duo Foggia and Lucarelli.
Milan will most likely field a similar side as last week, when their alternative side lost to Udinese, 2-3.
I guess that most everyone hope that Reggina will survive. Quite a feat they have accomplished, as they, despite their big point reduction, have the destiny in their own hands. Home win, I hope!

Roma - Messina 1.25 - 15.00
Candela, Iuliano, Rea, Zoro, Floccari, Di Napoli and Zanchi are missing for Messina. Could be that one or two of their youngsters will get some playing time at the Olympic Stadium.
The only interest for Roma at the moment seems to be Totti and his goal scoring. How many goals will he score this season? One or two more on Sunday!

Siena - Lazio 1.23 - 9.00
It was surprising to see Siena outfought by Palermo last week. I am not surprised that Palermo won, not at all, as they are the much the better side, but fact is that Siena did not work as hard as one had reason to expect. I have to say that I hope that they will go down, but the fact is that they only need to win this game, and then they are safe. Some important Siena absentees, as Cozza, Locatelli and Frick are out of this match.
Lazio welcome back their previously suspended players, 4 of them, but once again miss Mauri. Siviglia is out, suspended.
I guess that there is not much hope that Lazio will make a match of this fixture, but the last fool is not born yet. Away win! (9.00)

Udinese - Palermo 2.40 - 3.75
Same quintet of absent Udinese players as last week, including their striker Iaquinta.
Guana is the latest Palermo casualty, plus the old ones, Bresciano, Cavani, Amauri, Cassani and Diana.
I have not got a clue as to the result, but surely we will see plenty of goals. An overish looking game!

French League

Lille - Rennes 3.20 - 2.38
I am prepared to back the away win. (2.38) Thanks to their excellent results lately, (5-5-0) Rennes have a decent chance of reaching the attractive third place in the league. They have to win this game and at the same time hope that Bordeaux and Lens will fail to win their last matches, both away fixtures. Why should Bordeaux manage to defeat Toulouse? And Lens? Well they have mostly been a disappointment since the Christmas break.
All the same, Rennes have to go for the win. Their squad is fit and full of energy, but unfortunately they will be without their young striker, J Briand, who is out, suspended. I guess that Moreira will be the natural replacement alongside Utaka up front. Maybe Thomert will play some part.
Lille have lost more league games than they have won this season - amazing negative development for the Champions League participants.
Rennes will be without Briand, but it is worse for Lille, as they lost their leading offensive player, Keita, to an injury last week. Keita is out tomorrow. Backing Rennes! (2.38)

Monaco - Nancy 1.90 - 4.75
Absolutely nothing at stake and my choice here, the away win, must be described more as a feeling bet. Nancy to win, (4.75) and if they should manage this feat, it will be only their second away win of the season.
It was tough on Nancy in mid season with all their UEFA Cup games, but they have recovered their good spirits and their overall form is quite good. They lost their last away game to Marseille, 1-2, but it was a close call, and last week they thrashed the cup winners, Sochaux, 5-2.
My guess is that Monaco had one big desire left this season - to defeat the outstanding league winners, Lyon. They managed just that last week, winning 1-0, and now their season is over. At least I expects as much. Away win! (4.75)

Lorient - P S G 2.50 - 3.00
The home side will be without the suspended Ewolo, while PSG come full strength. Will any of these sides be motivated tomorrow? Probably not! Maybe Lorient can argue that this is their last home game of the season and they want to finish the season on a high at their own place. They have no fresh form, with one win in their last 5 matches. Last week they were more or less outclassed by Rennes in the prestigious Breton derby.
Any PSG motivation? They want to help their striker Pauleta. By scoring the two PSG goals last week against Troyes, Pauleta is now the leading scorer in the league, with one more goal scored than Savidan. The PSG form? They are in better shape than Lorient.
My suggestion is as follows : An over game, more than 2.5 goals.
Maybe I will back the away win. (3.00)

La Liga

The big four in Spain, R Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla and Valencia, all have home games this week. They are all likely winners, but one or two of them have become overrated favourites.
Real Madrid (1.24) face Deportivo La Coruna. I will not use this 1.24 on the home win, but I have no major objection regarding the odds. Real have all their big guns at their disposal and La Coruna do not have much to offer at the moment, certainly not away from home. Real have a habit of making it difficult for themselves, but as I said a couple of weeks ago, they will probably win their remaining fixtures.

Barcelona (1.25) welcome Getafe to the Nou Camp stadium. Same Getafe that just recently defeated Barca, 4-0, in the cup, after losing the first leg, 2-5! Same Getafe that scored 5 goals away to Espanyol last week, and are aiming for a place in Europe next season.
I expect a practically injury free Barcelona side to win this match, but no way that I will use the present odds. (1.25)

Sevilla (1.60) face Real Zaragoza. Zaragoza are 5th in the league, but it looks like they have lost their chance of qualifying for the Champoins League. Strong side, we all know that, but especially strong at their own place. Anyway, Zaragoza will travel to Sevilla with a fully fit squad, including fit again Pique.
Maybe Sevilla will be better prepared this week end than most weeks, as they for once have been without a midweek match. Likely home win, but I am not raving about the odds. (1.60)

Valencia (1.65) face their close rivals, Villarreal, in a hot derby game.
Villarreal are doing exceptionally well at the moment. Their win against Racing Santander last week was as a matter of fact their 5th successive league win. A place in the UEFA Cup is all of a sudden a distinct possibility.
Valencia will not be able to win the league, 4 points behind Real and Barcelona, with only 3 games remaining, but they will definitely be among the top 4. This is the reality for the club and its players, and I guess they all know that. I am not saying that Valencia will not be fully motivated this weekend. It is a derby game with all its special significance, but it is not about the title.
Vicente and Morientes are back in training, and both Baraja and Albelda played last week, so need for pessimism in the Valencia camp. My favourite Valencia player, Joaquin, has found his best form late in the season.
Once again, a likely home win, but opposing Villarreal on Sunday, I would absolutely need a stronger price. (1.65)

Osasuna - Real Sociedad 3.25 - 2.30
Also teams in Spain offer helping hands and in this particular fixture Osasuna are expected to be generous towards Real Sociedad. Regional friends, so to speak. The problem is that Osasuna are not safe yet - they need an additional point, and there are only 3 rounds left, including this one.
Milosevic is ready to play for his Osasuna again, but missing are H Font, Delporte, Cruchaga and Izquierdo.
Real hope to include their very important playmaker Savio from the start. He has been an injury worry all week long. Garitano will definitely be OK.
My suggestion is that Osasuna will grab their necessary point. A draw is not all bad for Real S. OK, the draw then! (3.40)

The Championship - play off final

Derby - W B A 3.25 - 2.38
No doubt in my mind - I will back the WBA win. (2.38) Having seen the previous play off games, I am definitely more impressed by WBA. How many more goals did WBA score in the Championship? Some 30 goals!
Derby have the big man Howard, but Macken and Fagan have not exactly shone, have they? G Barnes is fit again and he is of course an exciting player, but their only really strong striker is Howard.
K Phillips, Kamara and Ellington, there you have the WBA forwards, all excellent Championship forwards.
The WBA midfield is definitely more creative and I fail to see how this Derby side should be able to defeat WBA.
I have not seen much of the Derby coach B Davies before these play offs, but I am already tired of him, so please no Premiership for Derby. WBA to win. (2.38)
