The question of Finnish membership of NATO is closed suddenly. This is also notification to the organization and member countries of NATO, especially the United States of America. It has come out that Finnish-Russian state treaty, especially its security clauses, precludes Finland`s joining NATO.
Finland does and will not take any risk that it could be accused of violating the agreement with Russia which could justify Russia to resort to military action against Finland. The treaty was signed by Esko Aho, the Prime Minister of Finland in 1992. It is obvious that Russia holds tight of the agreement.

Finnish population by large majority is against NATO (especially anykind of formal affiliation). So are all credible politicians in this country. The unipolar nature of the organization and her arggessions have led wast demonstrations in Finland.
The traditional friendly relations with Russia have little to do with NATO or other sgressor questions, but more with cultural and commercial exchange.

Finland has not closed any discussion or option to NATO. The treaty between Finland and Russia does not have the military element that the YYA had. It doesn't force Finland to defend Russia. It rather urges Finland to solve her own security options as she wishes.
By this fact, Finland is free to choose any defence options available.
