EURO 2008 qualifying games
Belgium - Serbia 2.90 - 2.38
First qualifier for Belgium was at home to Kazakhstan (0-0). They never got over their disastrous start and Belgium can forget about the Championships next year. They have lost their last 4 qualifiers and they are out of the race.
Serbia have of course everything to play for, as they are involved in a tight race with Poland, Portugal and Finland. Unfortunately, the Serbs will be without 2 of their most influential players, D. Stankovic and N. Zigic.
Belgium miss P. Clement and Van Damme, but welcome back some important players, like Kompany, Van Buyten, Mudingayi and Dembele. Both the key defenders Van Buyten and Kompany have been missing in their last internationals. A stronger Belgium tomorrow!
Serbia won the home fixture against Belgium, 1-0, but it was far from one-way traffic in that match. An unmotivated Belgium this time? No way! In these kind of high profile fixtures, winning is always important. That is what football is all about, winning the big matches.
I do not think that Belgium will lose this game. Latest news indicates that Van Buyten is considered a major injury doubt. OK, I settle for the draw (3.25).
Some friendly games
England - Germany 2.30 - 3.20
Germany are missing numerous players this time. More than 10 squad members have stayed put in the Vaterland. Defensively they will be all right, with Metzelder and Mertesacker leading the line, but they are struggling big time offensively. Kuranyi will play up front but who else? Maybe the Cologne striker P Helmes, maybe Kiessling, maybe Odonkor.
Gerrard and Rooney are out for England, plus half a dozen other players, but this writer will miss only Gerrrard and Rooney. Crouch and A Johnson up front? I hope so! M. Richards, Ferdinand, Terry and A. Cole in defence. Lampard, Beckham, Carrick and Joe Cole (S Downing) in the middle.
Germany will have goal scoring problems tomorrow, and I expect England, the home nation, to score at least one goal. Enough to win this friendly (2.30). A 0-0 result is not out of the question.
Iceland - Canada 2.00 - 4.00
Why not the away win (4.00)? Canada played a strong Gold Cup tournament. They lost the semi final against USA, 1-2, but it was a very close call. European based players are dominating their squad this time. Stalteri (Tottenham), De Guzman (Coruna), Radzinski, A Hutchinson, Klukowski and I Hume are all well known on this continent.
Iceland have been playing really poorly lately. They could not defeat Lichtenstein in their home qualifier, and it seems to me that they have taken one step ahead and two steps backwards these last 2 years. Their big star E. Gudjohnsen plays for Barcelona, but he will not play tomorrow. No Helguson either, but Hreidarsson, Gunnarsson and Ingimarsson from the British leagues will be involved.

L Donovan, C Dempsey, J Spector, Beasley, Cherundolo, DeMerit, B Convey, Bocanegra and Feilhaber are all included in the American squad. You never need to doubt the American attitude.
