I'm an Irish guy moving to Helsinki. Never been to Finland before but as I've wanted to live outside Ireland for some time I thought Helsinki would be a good place as I've met some grazy Finnish people and hear (mostly)good thing about your country. I was just wondering if there are Irish people already living in Helsinki (must be, we're everywhere!). Thought it might be a good thing to meet some people from home in case the Finns and I won't get along...

There may be be one big problem though. It is very difficult to find work in Finland unless you can speak understandable Finns.- kukkunen

You'll fine in Finland.. We Finns love Irish people.. it's impossible not to... :) But as a fair warning... if I would be you.. I would not move to Helsinki !!! People are nicer in smaller towns :)

I recommeded that you live in Helsinki, If you are going to stay in Finland. That because little towns in other sides in Finland could be little boring, especially in winter. Winter is cold and long season in Finland.

You've got a point there, Helsinki is a more vivid place to stay than some smaller towns. The reason for my recommendation is that in my opinion the people are more important than the town itself.. I've never liked to stay in Helsinki coz the people are not very talkative or friendly there, whereas in smaller towns I've always found it easy to make friends and enjoy my time.. The reason why I fell in love with Ireland was the people I met.. not the towns I stayed in :) but as we know.. we are different so our opinions vary a lot as well :) and I'm sure there's a lot of nice people in Helsinki, unfortunately.. I've never met any :D
