"Eipä poiketa, mennään suoraan
Kirjoittanut: Erkki K 24.6.2008 klo 10.21

No, no!

Olet lukenut "nykytutkimukse" eli TOSISEIKKOJA KANNABIKSESTA aika heikosti, koska siinä olevat tiedot on jopa 2000 - 2007 ajalta.
Kirjoittajien nimet on ko. tutkimuksen alla.

    CANNABIS - THE FACTS
Cannabis (marijuana, pot, grass, weed, joints, spliff, hashish, blow) is a hallucinogen, a
depressant and our commonest illegal drug. How drugs work in the brain
    100 billion ner
    ve cells (neurons)
may have up to 10,000 connections
to other neurons in the vast brain
    network. Messages pass along the
    nerve fibres as electrical impulses,
then cross the gap between the
neurons (the synapse) in the form
    of chemicals – neurotransmitters –
    the brain’s natural drugs. Each
    neurotransmitter molecule has a
particular shape to fit into its
receptor site on the next neuron as a
    key fits into a lock.
    Mind-altering drugs like cannabis
    or more specifically THC
    (tetrahydrocannabinol), the
    ingredient that gives the “high”,
    mimic the shape of these
    neurotransmitters so the brain is
    “fooled”. Cannabis mimics
    anandamide and also interferes with
    the transmission of the other
    neurotransmitters because THC
    dissolves in the fatty cell
    membranes and persists. Fifty per
cent of the THC is still there after a
week and ten per cent a month
later. Traces are still detectable in
hair and urine for weeks after that.

    The Immediate effects
Taken for euphoria, usually smoked with or without tobacco, or eaten in “hash” cakes. (But enhances the mood
you’re in so you may well feel worse).
An intoxicant, like alcohol, so people should not be driving. If you have a joint today you should not be
driving tomorrow. (Airline pilots on flight simulators could not ‘land’ their planes properly even 24 hours and
more after a joint and had no idea anything was wrong.)
One 20mg joint has the same effect as being just over the legal alcohol-driving limit. The combination of
cannabis and alcohol is 16 times more dangerous when driving than taking either drug alone.
Panic attacks and paranoia can occur immediately after a joint.
    The long-term effects.
Just one joint per week or even once a month will ensure a permanent presence of THC. Since the other
neurotransmitters are affected, new nerve connections cannot be made properly. Concentration, learning
and memory are all badly affected. School grades fall, some students miss out on university places. A
cannabis personality develops. Users become inflexible, can’t plan their days properly, can’t take criticism and
struggle to express themselves. They feel lonely, miserable and misunderstood. Apathy, amotivation and
    dropping out are all common.
Few children, using cannabis even occasionally, will achieve their full potential.
    Dependence.
Psychological addiction, the craving for cannabis is very strong.
Physical addiction occurs. As more and more THC is consumed, more receptor sites are made, tolerance
builds as more THC is needed to get the same effect. All the receptor sites need to be satisfied, this is
physical addiction. Withdrawal symptoms are not so dramatic as they are for heroin as THC persists in the
body. More young people now are treated in the USA for marijuana than alcohol dependence.
There is no foolproof cure for any type of addiction.
    Mental Health.
Cannabis psychosis has been reported in scientific papers for decades. Cannabis causes far more mental illness
    than drugs like heroin.
The increased risk factors for psychosis, anxiety, and depression range from 3 to 5. Schizophrenia is triggered
or worsened by its use, it may even be caused. Cannabis increases the amount of the neurotransmitter dopamine
in the brain. Schizophrenics have an excess of dopamine in the brain, sufferers of Parkinson’s disease, too little.
(One in four of us carries a faulty gene which controls the release of dopamine. If a child inherits a copy of
the gene from each parent, and if they then use cannabis, the chance that she/he will develop schizophrenia rises
from 1 or 2%, the norm in the population, to 15%). The presence of one gene increases the risk by 5 to 6 times.
Violence and Suicide A Swedish study found more suicides among pot users than those who used alcohol,
amphetamines or heroin. The manner of death was more violent.
A study in 2001 from Dunedin found that young male cannabis users were nearly five times more likely to be
violent than non users, the risk for alcohol users was around three. Violence seems to occur with the psychosis
    or during withdrawal.

    Other Effects on the body
Cannabis contains more cancer-causing substances than tobacco, its smoke deposits three to four times as
much tar in the lungs and airways. Cases of lung cancer, bronchitis and emphysema have been reported.
Rare head and neck cancers are now being found in young pot smokers. The average age for these conditions
    in tobacco smokers is 64.
The immune system is damaged. Fewer white blood cells are produced, many are abnormal and can't fight
off infections. People are more vulnerable to disease, their illness is more severe and they stay sick longer.
Sperm production is decreased. Infertility and even impotence have been reported.
Babies born to cannabis using mothers are smaller, hyperactive, have behaviour and learning problems and
are 10 times more likely to develop leukaemia.
THC interferes with the production of new cells being made in an adult body - white blood cells, sperm and
foetal cells. (It causes faulty copying of DNA, and hastens cell death.)
Blood pressure and heart rates rise to the levels of real stress. Heart attacks have been reported. Two
teenagers had strokes and died after bingeing on cannabis, another was left paralysed.
    The Medical Argument
Medicines by law, have to be pure substances, single chemicals, so that their actions are predictable and
controllable. Heroin and cocaine fall into that category. Cannabis contains around 400 chemicals.
The BMA is currently testing more of the 60 or so purified cannabinoids (substances unique to the cannabis
plant) as potential medicines and that is correct procedure.
Synthetic purified THC, Nabilone, (Marinol in USA) is already available on hospital prescription but has
many side-effects and is not popular among doctors.
It all started in 1979 when an American pot smoking lawyer said, "We will use the medical marijuana
argument as a red herring on the road to full legalisation".
    The Pro-legalisers.
Many pro-legalisers are users, or their children are.
Others are libertarians who think we should be able to do what we like with our bodies. That’s fine as long as it
doesn’t interfere with anyone else. But stoned drivers can and do kill other people. Addicts and the
mentally-ill need treatment at the taxpayers expense, stoned workers are inefficient and unproductive.
    And passive smoking does occur.
    Cannabis as a gateway drug?
Tobacco, alcohol and cannabis can all act as gateway drugs. A recent New Zealand study showed that weekly
cannabis users were 60 times more likely to progress to “harder” drugs. The more they use, the greater the risk.
Almost 100% of heroin users started on pot. New research suggests that cannabis can “prime” the brain for
    the use of other drugs.
    Relaxing the law
Holland turned a blind eye to cannabis in 1987 and is now the crime capital of Europe. The country is awash
with dealers, and it is a major producer and exporter of drugs especially ecstasy.
Health and social problems have escalated and the amount allowed for personal possession has been reduced
from 30g to 5g. The present Dutch government wants to close all the coffee shops. Many have gone.
Since down-classification in 2001 in the UK, regular cannabis use is still rising among 11 to 12 year old
boys, older teens seem to have progressed to cocaine.

    Strength
In the sixties and seventies, the average THC content of herbal cannabis was just 0.5 - 1%.
Today’s specially bred varieties from Holland such as skunk and nederweed, have THC contents of anything
from 9-27%. These strong types are now commonly grown in the UK and are thought to account for 60% of the
    cannabis consumed here.
The rest of the cannabis used here is cannabis resin with a THC content of around 4 to 5%.
    Drug Testing
More and more employers are testing for drugs in the workplace – cannabis will show up for weeks, and a
conviction would prevent someone from getting a visa for the USA.
    Quotations from the Experts:
Mental illness: “Five years ago, 95% of psychiatrists would have said that cannabis doesn’t cause psychosis.
Now I would estimate that 95% say it does”
(Professor Robin Murray, Director Institute of Psychiatry, London. October 2006).

“The mistake was that in its 2002 report, The Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs denied that cannabis
was a contributory cause of schizophrenia, continued to deny this for the next two years and thus mislead
ministers into repeatedly stating that there was no causal link between cannabis and psychosis”.
( Professor Robin Murray, letter to The Guardian, 19/01/06).

Personality: “If the development of identity does not progress, the teenager remains at a childish level of
development characterised by both a lack of independence and a deficient integration in the adult world”.
    (Swedish researcher, Jan Ranstrom 2003)

Academic performance: “Use more often than twice per week for even a short period of time, or use for 5
years or more at the level of even once per month, may each lead to a compromised ability to function to their
full mental capacity, and could possibly result in lasting impairments”
(Dr Nadia Solowij, “Cannabis and Cognitive Functioning” 1998).

Medical argument: Dr Keith Green an American ophthalmologist, says 6 joints a day would be needed to
maintain reduced eye pressure caused by glaucoma, rendering the patient incapable of any useful functioning.
The warning on Nabilone reads: “THC encourages both physical and psychological dependence and is
highly abusable. It causes mood changes, loss of memory, psychoses, impairment of coordination and
    perception, and complicates pregnancy”.
Dr Robert Dupont, founder of NIDA (National Institute for Drug Abuse) in the USA said, “I have been
apologising to the American people for the last 10 years for promoting the decriminalisation of cannabis. I made
a mistake. Marijuana combines the worst effects of alcohol and tobacco and has other ill effects that neither of
    these two have”.
He added, “In all of history, no young people have ever taken marijuana regularly on a mass scale. Therefore
our youngsters are in effect making themselves guinea pigs in a tragic experiment. Thus far our research clearly
suggests we will see horrendous results”
Mary Brett, Former Head of Health Education, Dr Challoner’s Grammar School (boys), Amersham,
    Bucks.
UK spokesman for EURAD (Europe against Drugs).

Olen jo allekirjoittanut joitakin kirjoittamiasi ajatuksia, niinkuin sinäkin olet allekirjoittanut joitakin minun ajatuksiani.
    Sitähän keskustelut on.

    Pallo on sinulla.

Well, we gave her a chance but it seems like Debra Bell is set to continue talking bollocks about cannabis. Her daft website has been updated and it seems her Parental Action Group is going ahead at full steam … which actually probably isn’t very fast since it’s been the first update in two months.

Debra doesn’t like to work too hard.

We’ve noticed some changes to the site. The link to scientology loons Narconon has disappeared and at the bottom of the page Debra tells us: Talking About Cannabis has no affiliation to any political party, religious organisation or sect.

Which is strange given that the patron of the group is Baroness Anelay of St Johns, the Tory Chief Whip and of the four MPs listed as official advisers they all happen to be Tories.

The good news is that list of advisers appears to have dramatically shrunk. Deborah Cameron and Richard McKendrick of drugs charity Addaction appear to have mysteriously disappeared. Which is a shame for poor old Debra because they were the one organisation who gave her any credibility.

We’ve been in touch with Addaction several times to ask what they are doing supporting a lying misfit and it seems they’ve finally realised just exactly what this group is. A self-promotion vehicle for Debra Bell who give distorted and hysterical information on cannabis and ignore any scientific facts which don’t back up her dubious claims.

Debra now includes a picture of herself on the front page, just so you know for sure that this is really all about HER.

Back to the list and the other missing persons appear to be the National Drugs Prevention Alliance, the senile old giffers who’ve been the mainstay of the UK prohibitionist movement for donkeys years.

One of them David Rayne is still featured on her front page however giving his distorted views on the recent ACMD review into cannabis. You might remember our David, he’s the former Customs Officer who resigned in disgrace after being accused of illegality and incompetance by a High Court Judge. David Rayne - made of fail.

Another bloke on her list who’s made of fail is Dr Ian Oliver. This muppet is an ex-cop who also resigned in disgrace after screwing up an enquiry into the murder of a child.

Also present and definitely made of fail are the Maranatha Community which kinda shatters their argument that they don’t have a link to a religious organisation.

The Maranatha Community are a bunch of fundie Christians who been accused of acting as a cult in the US. In the UK they’re more likely to be found actively promoting extreme homophobia and we’ll have a run down on them soon. In the meantime here’s a taster of their dodgy prejudice:

“Some of the media and much of the gay movement portray the LGB lifestyle as happy, healthy and fulfilled. However, the LGB lifestyle is associated with very high rates of sexual promiscuity, and a large number of very serious physical and emotional health consequences. It shows an unacceptable lack of compassion for individual people, and an unacceptably cavalier attitude to public health, to attempt to portray as normal or desirable, to encourage, or to seek to promote or facilitate in any way, LGB lifestyles.”

Dr. Hans-Christian Raabe is also listed as an advisor to Talking About Cannabis and is an active member of the Maranatha loons.

Another bloke on her list who’s made of fail is Dr Ian Oliver. This muppet is an ex-cop who resigned in disgrace after screwing up a child’s murder enquiry.

Back to Debra they are planning to set up a Helpline which we are planning to have hours of fun with. More worryingly they are still wittering on about setting up Treatment Centres. Debra has no clinical experience, no counselling qualification and seems to think crystals are a legitimate form of treatment.

We reckon Debra thinks this will be a nice little earner and they’re still begging for donations on the site and claiming to have applied to become a charity. Which is funny because up until recently they were claiming to be a charity already!

And if they are successful in this application then we suppose that we’ll have to get back onto our mates at the Charity Commission are doing giving recognition to an organisation that is clearly political in nature, which is a breach of Charity Law. In the meantime we’ll look forward to their first set of accounts which we’ll be scrutinizing very carefully.

Well it’s been some time coming but now feels about the right time to look at some of the ’scientific’ information that talking about cannabis plan to distribute to schools and parents. On the Talking About Cannabis website parents and children are invited to download a document written by one Mary Brett, spokesperson for Europe Against Drugs (EURAD … and we’re getting round to them).

Unfortunately facts seem in fairly short supply in this document. You really can’t blame poor old Brett, no matter how often she dishonestly refers to herself as a biologist her lowly BSc and career in an all boys Grammar School clearly marks her down as a teacher … and if her ability to construct a legible sentence is anything to go by then perhaps not a very good one.

Brett’s trick is to trawl through scientific studies of varying legitamacy and then present as fact results which even the original researchers ackowledge are as yet unproven.

Any studies which disagree with Brett’s opinion are studiously ignored, which is a shame for her because most studies do tend to disagree with Brett’s biased conculsions.

Let’s start with a quote from the Lancet (real scientists) who in an editorial in 1995 said:

The smoking of cannabis, even long term, is not harmful to health.”

Whilst the possibility that cannabis may have some link to psychosis remains an, as yet unproven concern, the scientific consensus regarding the physical risks of cannabis remain much the same as stated in the above editorial.

That doesn’t stop Brett though who claims:

“Just one joint per week will ensure a permanent presence of THC. Functioning of all the other neurotransmitters is affected New nerve connections cannot be made
Concentration, learning and memory are all badly affected.

There is now strong suggestive evidence from animal experiments and brain scans of humans that some of these cells may die. “

So let’s have the facts. The myth that cannabis kills brain cells is largely down to one study in the 1970’s in which three Rhesus monkeys were heavily dosed with cannabis and structural changes (not cell death) in the brain were observed.

This study was heavily criticised at the time and has never been replicate. Much larger monkey studies, one by Dr. William Slikker of the National Center for Toxicological Research (1) and the other by Charles Rebert and Gordon Pryor of SRI International(2) failed to any evidence of physical alteration in the brains of monkeys exposed to daily doses of cannabis for up to a year.

Human studies of heavy users in Jamaica and Costa Rica also found no evidence of abnormalities in brain physiology (3).

So Brett’s claim that cannabis causes:

“permanent brain damage – slow, subtle, insidious and cumulative.”

    and that

“Few children, using cannabis even occasionally, will achieve their full potential.”

have no actual basis in fact whatsoever. Anyone would think she had an agenda.

Brett also gets her knicker’s in a twist over the fact that THC is fat soluble (like many substances) and therefore tends to hang about in the body for some time. Brett claims:

“Airline pilots on flight simulators could not ‘land’ their planes properly even 24 hours and more after a joint”

As ever the truth is far less dramatic. Presumably Brett is referring to a pair of flight simulator studies by Leirer, Yesavage, and Morrow, which reported effects on a flight simulator performance up to 24 hours after using cannabis. (4)

Whilst the study did find some impact on pilot’s performance Leirer himself said the effects were “very subtle” and “very marginal,” and were less than those noted due to pilots ages.

A later flight simulator study by the same group failed to find any effects beyond 4 hours after using cannabis. (5)

So once again Brett has twisted the facts to suit her own agenda.

Onto the issue of whether cannabis is addictive Brett claims:

“More young people treated in the USA for marijuana than alcohol dependence”

What Brett fails to mention is that at least half of all young people in the US are in treatment programme for cannabis due to court orders. It should also be noted that many parents and schools who listen to the hysterical ramblings of the likes of Brett may refer their children into treatment regardless of whether they have a problem.

Brett claims that physical dependance to cannabis is not as severe as heroin addiction because THC stored in the body reduces the severity of withdrawal symptoms.

    Which frankly, is fucking nonsense.

There is no compulsive scientific evidence that cannabis can cause physical dependance. The study “Clinical Studies of Cannabis Tolerance and Dependence,” concluded that:

“When human subjects were administered daily oral doses of 180-210 mg of THC - the equivalent of 15-20 joints per day - abrupt cessation produced adverse symptoms, including disturbed sleep, restlessness, nausea, decreased appetite, and sweating.

The authors interpreted these symptoms as evidence of physical dependence. However, they noted the syndrome’s relatively mild nature and remained skeptical of its occurrence when marijuana is consumed in usual doses and situations.” (6)

Evidence has also been presented that suggests when humans are allowed to control consumption even high doses are not followed by adverse withdrawal symptoms.(7)

Meanwhile national epidemiological surveys in the US show that the large majority of people who use cannabis do not become regular users.

In 1993, among Americans age 12 and over, about 34% had used marijuana sometime in their life, but only 9% had used it in the past year, 4.3% in the past month, and 2.8% in the past week. ( 8)

So once again Brett’s scare-mongering fails to match up to the scientific evidence.

The effect of cannabis on mental health is too large an issue for the scope of this document. We will note that the debate is not helped by Brett’s claim that:

“Cannabis increases the amount of the neurotransmitter, dopamine in the brain.
    Too much dopamine causes schizophrenia.”

The dopamine theory of schizophrenia is just that, a theory - not a fact. It has largely been discredited as far too simplistic an approach and in any event the idea that cannabis causes an increase of dopamine in the brain has not been established beyond doubt.

Sex, shopping and chocolate all cause an increase of dopamine in the brain.

    As for Brett’s comment that:

“Even on one joint per month or six weeks, a cannabis personality emerges. ”

Which presumably is something that she just made up ‘cos it sounded good, long live the Brett school of science.

And finally Brett chucks in a few hand-grenades at the end claiming that cannabis causes head and neck cancers, the immune system is damaged and that babies born to cannabis using mothers are smaller, hyperactive and have behaviour and learning problems .

With regard to her claim that young people who smoke are developing head and neck cancers, the truth of this unfounded allegation can be found on EURAD’s own website:

“in a cohort study with 8 years of follow-up, marijuana use was not associated with increased risks of all cancers or smoking-related cancers. Further epidemiological
studies are necessary to confirm the association of marijuana smoking with head and neck cancers and to examine marijuana smoking as a risk factor for lung cancer. ” (9)

The research which has been carried out suggesting cannabis may damage the immune system has typically involved lab animals being given huge doses of THC. According to a review on the subject by Dr. Leo Hollister(10):

“The evidence [on immune suppression] has been contradictory and is more supportive of some degree of immunosuppression only when one considers in vitro studies. These have been seriously flawed by the very high concentrations of drug used to produce immunosuppression. The closer that experimental studies have been to actual clinical situations, the less compelling has been the evidence.”

Once again Brett produces scant evidence as scientific fact.

And as to a risk to unborn babies, once again the evidence is far from conclusive with one study suggesting that cannabis use had a positive impact on birthweight during the third trimester of pregnancy with no adverse behavioral consequences.(11)

Another further study of Jamaican women who had used cannabis throughout pregnancy found that their babies registered higher on developmental scores at 30 days, whilst experiencing no significant effects on birthweight or length. (12)

Finally Brett seeks to simplify and discredit medical cannabis with the dramatic claim that cannabis contains over 400 chemicals.

    Brewed coffee contains around 800.

The rest of Brett’s leaflet contains brief details on the effects of other drugs, which although in some cases are not entirely accurate, they are not covered in anywhere near the same detail as cannabis.

Brett and her cohorts may wish to consider what the kids will make of this info after being subjected to a diatribe of dishonest and unscientific drivel on the subject of cannabis.

And those MP’s and charities which have offered Talking About Cannabis support may wish to consider whether they really support lying to young people about drugs.

Net-savvy teenagers can easily find all of the information presented above.

Are they likely to believe anything they are told about drugs at all if this kind of malicious propaganda becomes the norm in schools?

    Tällaista on rekisteröidyn yhdistyksen toiminta.

(nyttemmin lakkautettu)

Muistaaksen 1982 petustimme toisen yhdistyksen, nimeltään SUOMEN VANHEMPAINYHDISTYS IRTI HUUMEISTA Ry.

Myohemmin nimi muutettiin IRTI HUUMEISTA Ry.

    Olen molempien yhdistyksien peurustajajasenia.

No, no!

Olet lukenut "nykytutkimukse" eli TOSISEIKKOJA KANNABIKSESTA aika heikosti, koska siinä olevat tiedot on jopa 2000 - 2007 ajalta.
Kirjoittajien nimet on ko. tutkimuksen alla.

Olisi hienoa, jos ottaisit vastargumenttien kirjoittamisessa oppia vaikka RONETTAJALTA.
