GE Marine Engines announced that a GE LM2500 combined gas turbine and steam turbine integrated electric drive system (COGES) plant powers Royal Caribbean International's Brilliance of the Seas cruise ship which recently made its maiden voyage. The Brilliance of the Seas will sail in Europe, the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. The 962-foot long ship has a passenger capacity of 2,100, is of 90,090 gross tonnage and has a cruising speed of 25 knots. Currently there are a total of six cruise ships in operation that use GE's LM2500 COGES plant: two Royal Caribbean ships - Brilliance of the Seas and Radiance of the Seas -- and four Celebrity Cruises ships - Millennium, Infinity, Summit and Constellation. The COGES arrangement on each ship features two GE LM2500 gas turbine-generators and one steam turbine-generator set for a total output of 59 megawatts. This electric drive configuration provides for both main ship propulsion as well as all onboard power generation. To date, the 12 LM2500 gas turbines aboard the six ships have accumulated 75,000 hours in service. The COGES arrangement is a very efficient use of energy. Energy that otherwise would be lost in the gas turbine exhaust is captured by heat recovery steam generators to produce steam for steam turbine electric power generation and service steam use. The LM2500 COGES ships operate on clean distillate fuel to significantly reduce emissions of most airborne pollutants and other particulates, as compared to a diesel electric power system operating on heavy fuel oil, which is customary for most cruise ships.

Se on propagandaa. Ihmisten pitäisi miettiä omilla aivoillaan eikä uskoa aina mitä syötetään. Finnjetissä ymmärrykseni mukaan 2 kpl DC-10 lentokoneen turbiinia. DC-10:ssä näitä moottoreita on 3. Kyseinen kone kuljettaa n. 350 matkustajaa ja rahtia hatusta vedettynä 50000 kg ?
ja se on riippuen tilanteesta, kai kannattavaa.
Kuten kirjoitin aikaisempaan ketjuun Finnjetin kapasiteetti taas on tehdas kokoluokkaa.
Finnjetin kunto on tarkastettu 17.4.08 Genoassa italiassa. Terve,
Terveisin Teppo
ps
nyt sitten kaikki vaan risteilemään noilla uusilla kaasuturbiinilaivoilla, ovathan nekin hienoja vehkeitä ;)
Laivana käytettäis.
En osaa varmasti itse paremmin liikeelämää.
Sen takia voinkin aidosti ihmetellä näitä liike-elämän "kykyjä".
Helsingistä lähtee 2 laivaa joka päivä tukholmaan. Laivat ovat Aivan täynnä. Matkaa on miltei mahdotonta ostaa. Risteilyn hinnalla saa yhden - kahden viikon etelän matkan. Useinkin suihkuturbiinien voimin. TAX FREE Tukkuhinnoin laivalle ostetuista eineksistä lämmitetyt ruuat/hlö maksavat hinnan jolla maissa syö ainakin kolme henkinen perhe. Lisäksi myydään valtavat määrät tupakkaa ja alkoholia. Jotka tosin "maissa" hintoja selvästi edullisemmin. Mutta erittäin hyvällä katteella.
Valtion verohelpotuksia vastaavvia summia jaetaan osinkoina.

Noilla kaasuturbiinilaivoilla. :)
"The Millennium also boasts a number of firsts for the cruise industry. She is the first to use gas turbine technology. This technology can reduce exhaust emissions by up to 90%. The Millennium uses "GTS" (Gas Turbine System) as a prefix to her formal name, which is "GTS Millennium." Also the use of this type of system curtails engine noise and vibration considerably. She is also the first ship to have an exterior glass-enclosed elevator. It is fun to use and gives you a wonderful panoramic view, but if you have a fear of heights this may present a problem because it is the only elevator bank mid-ship."

Tervehdys!
Kaasuturbiineja on edellämainitun listan lisäksi ainakin kolmella Princess Cruicesin aluksella.
Royal Caribbean Radiance Class kaasuturbiinilaivoista sanotaan näin:
Main engines are a mixture of gas and steam turbine-electric. The steam turbine unit utilises the waste het of thetwo gas turbines togenerate electricity as a back-up to the propulsion system and for the hotel services on board.
Celebrity Cruisen Millennium Class kaasuturbiinilaivoista sanotaan näin:
Radical developments in powerplants and propulsion systems were announced in 1998, around the time the first orders were placed. The first large passenger ships to be fitted with gas turbine-powered electric-drive engines. Gas turbine-electric-drive installations higher cost is more than offset by reductions in engine-room manning levels, besides which space otherwise occupied by machinery is released for additional passanger accommodations.
