Hieroin kauppoja erään englanninkielisen yrityksen kanssa. Emme saaneet sopimusta syntymään ja lopuksi sanoin "sorry I bothered you for nothing". Tarkoitus oli siis sanoa "anteeksi, että vaivasin turhaan". Myöhemmin tajusin, että en tainnut sanoa ihan oikein. Mitä "sorry I bothered you for nothing" tarkoittaa, jos mitään? Miten sanon oikein "anteeksi, että vaivasin turhaan"?

Perhaps you could have said: "I'm sorry I've wasted your time", or "Thank you for your time anyway". Don't try to translate from Finnish word by word. Each language has its own phrases. Well, my English is not so good, so what I suggested may not be the most appropriate thing to say.

with "bothering for nothing", it's being used everyday. Maybe not taught at the Finnish peruskoulu.
I can suggest something else, maybe a bit too flowery but definitely more polite: 'Dear Sir, I am crestfallen that the time we spent on this endeavor has come to naught." ;) - suomenkieliseen

Sorry I bothered you for nothing ja monet muut ehdotetut ovat ehka ainakin Briteille liian sarkastiselta kuulostavia. Itse taalla 20v asuneena sanon 'thank you (very much) for your time'. Sita ennen sanon, mita paatimme tehda, esim. 'We decided not to go ahead with the project/we've accepted another offer...but thank you very much for you time (anyway)'.
