9. VISCULT Festival 8.-11.10.2009 (thursday - sunday)

Viscult – The Festival of Visual Culture takes place in Joensuu, Cinema Tapio. Film content is ethnographic, anthropological and documentary.

Viscult is a personal event with the majority of film makers present to introduce their work and encourage discussions about the films, film-making, and culture. The festival streams all content - films and discussions alike - live on the Internet all over the world.

This year's program consists of 21 films which deal with the theme ”FAMILY”.

Family is one of the central themes of cultural anthropology. Family is a basic unit of every society and has traditionally had different forms in different cultures. In our world of constant change, the definition of family is under an ever continuing re-negotiation, concerning such matters as international adoption, se xual minorities rights to a family and internet's virtual communities. Festival's films introduce us to different kinds of families across the world and through their stories aspire to expand our perception of kinship.
