What kind of Finnish health system?

I am a Finnish citizen from a foreign origin. Have been paying thousands of euros taxes and today for a first time since 2004 I went to Marian sairaala as I have sore throat, running nose, coughing and symptoms of infection on the breathing tracts, As it was 22:06 and Marian Sairaala accepts patients until 22:00 o'clock I was asked about my problem, three lines were written on a flying piece of paper and was told that no doctor could see me as there were other patients waiting and the working time is until 22:00. I was told to go to my health center in the morning. May that be the procedure for everyone in Finland, who pays regularly taxes and abides social obligations, I find my experience and my case from few minutes ago quite unjust. This system may work for some, but it is not a working system to qualify it in particularity.

Well, that seems to be finnish health care system on these days. They lack of staff, so if symptoms are not serious, one will be easily sent back to home, in some good cases with a painkiller prescription. In low resource systems, systems are often inflexible, especially if it is about money. Sadly, money goes ahead of health.

Btw, you wrote your message on mentalhealth area.

  • Thanks for complementing the case. I wrote it under "mental health" as I just wanted to post it somewhere. In such times an individual may attain some negative emotions so typing fe lines and posting them somewhere, regardless where exactly, can help for the partial release of negativism.

Because you wrote this on mental health forum, I suspect your symptoms were only psychosomatic.

  • Thanks for commenting. That was/is not my case, unless you as a "psychiatrist" are able to make an assessment from a distance. If you are really a "psychiatrist", then you are even part of that system I was writing about and further you may be biased.
